On my back home last night around midnight and I see a 06 Eclipse and a 99-04 Mustang GT racing, I follow and the Eclipse ends up winning by like a car length. We get up to the next light and I pull next to him and he asks if I wanna race, sure why not . I get a decent launch, and we are dead even all through 1st. Hit 2nd and we're still dead ass even. Getting to about 5.5k in second and I slowly creep on him, shift to 3rd and finally I'm creepin ahead and am about 1 car length ahead by 80. We shut down, give him thumbs up and get nothing in return...just a good ol' fly by. Definately a good race though.

BTW: Race took place in Forest Preserve late at night. No cars, no pedestrians, only deer.

Cool If your stoc then thats a really good win, I thought they were quite a bit faster like low 14's

 

its alright, they cost more and have a little stronger torque than us and worse gas mileage. still a kill. good kill! (the eclipse) sucks about he srt, but it happens.

 

Yeah Im stock, was in a really good mood after that race until I got pulled on by a stock SRT-4 later that night.

 

Damn for being stock thats good Way to put it down for the balts.

I have only one question,was the eclipse six speed,or auto,because the GT V6,six speed runs 1/4 in 14.2 at 101mph,refer back to roadandtrack,june of 06,so i think the race should have went a little better especially since the cobalt is stock but anyways if you really did beat him good job you must know how to really drive your car.

 

the mustang fanbois....this coming from a cobalt owner whos forum has 2.2 owners saying all eclipses are slow, ss/sc owners posting kills of 03 cobras, and gallardos....yea...those damn mustang fanbois.

 

i have driven the 6 speed and it has major traction issues. it will mostly run mid 14's. alot of you are forgetting how different results are on the street from results on the track and how much the driver effects times.

 

Hmmm if seems you simply outdrove him. I know those cars are pretty stout but if they overrev them (meaning shifting PAST 6K or so) they slow down alot. If you were that close chances are to skeert him into messing it up. Stock for stock. I think the Eclipse is a little quicker, unless of course you outdrove him which gets you the

 

i dont dislike mustangs or anything and im not trying to put u down but just like u said street is way different than track

im sorry but us cobalts can beat cobras and gallardos but lets put it this way... they might have left some parts of the story out

i beat a corvette c5 the second time we raced but that was because the onramp we were going on was wet for some reason... but the first time we raced i only pulled on him 1-2 cars but he easily got by me

road conditions and drivers can make a bunch of difference

 

Good Kill. I drove an 07 spyder and it was an auto. I wasnt impressed at all but we also had 5 people in that tiny ass car.

 

they run low 14s stock so its a pretty good matchup for the SS
