Going to be racing a WS6 soon....

Hello. My brother has informed me of a guy who owns a BONE STOCK 2002 automatic WS-6 Ram air trans am. The kid says that it will be "no contest" between his car and mine. I don't like to street race, so I'm going to try to get him to go to the track. Funny too, since I'll have my 2.5" pulley, 60lb injectors, and HP Tuners tuning when we race. I'll probably have my custom CAI too. It could end up not being at the track, I'll try to get it on video either way. How do you guys think I'll do? If I remember, they should run mid-low 13's at about 104mph? My car is setup the same way as Robs, and should be good for 108+mph traps.

Yep, 26X9.5 hoosier quick time pro's. Big tire, I'm sure it hurts the trap a little, but they hook good.

IS that WS6 stock?? If not you're going to have some serious troubles depending on his mods... However, since he has a Automatic, you should be pretty close vs a stock one... Either way.. Good luck~!

Supposedly it is stock. From a dig, he's got the advantage if I'm on street tires. From a roll, I think I'll have the advantage. At the track, he's got an easier car to launch.

CORRECTION: I was just informed that it's a TA only, no WS6. It's a minor difference, but a little better for me.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that difference is basically the same as Z28 and SS Camaros?

Yep. The WS6 had a better suspension and 15 more hp if I remember correctly. Like I said, small-but a little better for me.

IMO a T/A WS6 pulls a little harder than a Camaro SS. I dont know why maybe it just looks faster LOL. I realy want to know how this race looks. I am interested to see who would win. I have a freind with a T/A who is always talking smack and i am not going to race him now because i wont win if i dont get a tune and like $300 worth of parts. Good luck, dont get over excited and botch it up.

Thanks, and I'll try not to make any mistakes, lol. We'll have to do 2 out of 3 "clean races" to get a good comparison.

With the numbers that you're posting, i think you should get him. My friend's 2002 WS6 ran a 13.1 and 13.2 at the track with exhaust. Since this is just a regular stock TA, you should get him.

The setup I'll have SHOULD be good for a 12.6-12.8 @ 108mph on slicks. On street tires (since I think my tire size hurts trap) I might be good for 110mph traps. I know that at the track and from a dig, a good e.t. matters. For a roll race, the higher trap should win. I think I'll win, but I don't get arrogant, and I don't ever underestimate my opponent. Thanks for the info on your buddies. The A4's e.t. good, but what about their traps? 104mph seem right?

I agree. The auto will help him off the line, but hurt him a little on the top end. If anyone's ever driven an A4 and a 6-speed, you know what I'm talking about. A 3rd gear roll in a LS1 is impressive, and stronger than a roll in an A4.

i had an encounter with a 2000 ws6 auto the other night he had 20''wheels with exhaust
from a 20 roll i stayed right beside him all the way through 3rd gear when he let off i only have an intake and i was running 101 gas at the time which HELPS BIG TIME! so i say you have a decent chance.

A WS6 has no performance difference from a regular Trans-Am. A pretty easy rule of thumb is that when comparing any vehicle with an LS1 is: an LS1 is an LS1 is an LS1. The only exception is that 2001-2002 have a different intake manifold than the 1997 ('vette year) to 2000 which equates to about 10 WHP.

Be prepared for a good race though, remember, trap speed is pretty meaningless at a 1/4 mile track so get some traction and get those shifts fast since there is no way you can shift faster than an auto

A stock auto 3.23 geared (some F-bodies auto's came with 2.73 rear gears) is easily capable of running very low 13's FWIW.

Yeah a WS-6 will typically put out the same numbers as a regular T/A. Since it's an 02 it'll have the LS6 intake manifold w/ like Glove mentioned usually nets around 10whp. It'll be a good run, but if he it truly bone stock and will be on street tires I think you'll be able to take him. People always say "LS1's run low 13's like nothing right out of the box..etc etc" and indeed there's no doubt they are capable of it. But in all the experience I've had at the track I have yet to see a bone stock LS1 go better than a 13.2, and MOST bone stock LS1's I see are in the 13.4-13.6 range on street tires. Not at all trying to start flames...it's just what I've seen personally at the track.

Either way, good luck and bring your slicks

I'm not sure where you live, but the closer to sea level you live the worse off you'll be. The TA is good for a 13.2-13.5 with a decent launch. Despite what everyone else has said, a good driver in an M6 will run faster and trap higher than the A4. It is possible that the TA will only have 2.73 gears in the rear end though, as opposed to the 3.23's that came in the WS6's and some A4 TA's that opted for it from the factory.

To be perfectly honset, my money is still on the TA. Assuming he shows up with a 1/4 tank of gas, nothing in the car, launches it right, and pulls off a 13.2. Judging from your signature you've driven a manual transmission once at the track before, so how you figure you're a "good driver" is beyond me. On top of that you're the kind of guy that's saying, I'm gonna do this, and this and this and then I'll be faster than so and so. I've heard that so many times, and not once have I been humbled by that guy's tail lights. Get your stuff together before you talk ****.

First of all, in no way am I talking crap! Second of all, this isn't the first stick car I've had. I drove a modded 96 Z28 for years that was a 6-speed. Also, I don't know a whole lot of people that cut a 1.9 60' their first time to the track with a stick,IN A FWD CAR. I don't want to brag about myself, don't get that impression. I'm a decent stick driver. As for saying what my car "will do" I think I know. I had the same setup as Rob's at IDDVII, and ran within 2 tenths of his best and one mph, so I'd say that I'm accurate. The mods I'll have at this race are the same that he dyno'd with. I'm not just some magazine racer who throws out numbers. Rob's usually very accurate with what a car should be capable of. Regardless of which, I never asked anyone to come in here and insult me, you can kiss my a$$! State your opinion of who will win, that's fine-but don't judge me. If/when I do beat this kid, I'll be sure rub it in your face.

I'll assume this race will take place at the GIR, right?

If so, when? I'll be there to witness the race and to race both of you.

Lol, hey buddy. You're like that guy off mr. deeds. You pop up surprisingly . Yes, I'm going to try to get him to go to GIR. I'll be sure to let you know the date if he agrees.
Oh, and it's more like "witness the race, and smoke the both of you".
Take care man.
