So my buddy goes to High School with some punk kid with a first gen 240sx which he just completed a SR20DET Redtop swap into like last week.

Get this: The kid claims he's making 383hp on 8psi with a completely stock engine

The car has never been Dyno-ed or tuned as it sits.

The same engine in the similar-weight 180sx reportedly runs a ~14.5 in the quarter.

From what I hear the kid can't drive worth **** (frequently misses shifts or grinds).

I don't know what other mods he has, but I told him I'll only run him if he is running 8psi and no more.

Do you guys think I can take him? I might request a 20 roll

P.S. He wants to run for 100 bucks

Earlier this week one of my old friends from my hometown called me telling me this kid that I went to high school with wants to run me with his stock Mercury Cougar V6, and he wanted to know what I wanted to bet against him LOL

I told him to come up with every dime you can get and I'll drive out there

 

how is that easy money? u got a ls sport? an stock sr comes with 205 hp. ur car has what 170? plus the 240 is lighter. i use to have a 240 with a sr20 all it had was upgraded turbo put out about 250 hp and it spun tires in first and second on dry to . hes defently not putting out 300+ hp on a stock setup but ur car would defently not destroy his car. only way i can see u winning is if he misses all gears lol

 

Yeah, I told him I wanted a thorough inspection of his car. It's standard procedure when racing for me

On a side note, I took my car in to get my wheel bearings checked last week and before they even put it on the lift, they popped the hood and were looking at the engine with a confused look (expecting to see nitrous).

One of them immediately walks into the waiting room and asks "wtf? Did you take the nitrous off your car?"

 

lmao! if he did a swap last week n he's already running it, he's a moron. he might as well junk the car. unless he drove around babying it for 1000 miles, which is hard n boring to do in one week (i broke my clutch in by driving to dansville 110miles one way n aimlessly driving around there added another 100 miles, but that took me about 1.5 weeks to break it in). lol, take his hundred n stride. lol. does he know ur on the bottle? stupid highschool children. lol. when will they learn?

 

I'm running full bolt-ons and a 90 wet shot of nitrous oxide.

Last week I beat a lightly modded 2002 WRX and DESTROYED a lightly modded 2007 Civic Si

 

u obviously don't know he has a 90 shot, plus bolt ons. plus he can spray continuously while shifting. great thing for the autos.

 

He knows i'm on the bottle and he knows I beat a WRX but he doesn't know what shot I'm running.

I slapped my buddy for telling him I'm on the bottle and that I beat a WRX, and I told him to tell 240sx boy that I'm running a 35 shot

 

I pulled a couple cars on an SR20DET 240sx from 40 to the top of second in my (then) stock SS S/C. Had we gone to third, I probably would have pulled some more.

If you can beat (or at least hang with) a stock LSJ, you should be just fine. Plus, you don't have that pesky thing called shifting to worry about

 

I'd be a dick and charge you a 100 bucks for me to pop the hood. Don't be a chicken man, if you're confident you can take him just go do it...

 

Here's a video of a slightly modded SR20DET in an Infiniti G20 vs a ko4 swapped GTi on 22psi with every other mod possible, that car made 290whp. The g20 was never dyno'd.

Wow, nice, those SR20's must respond damn well to modding, last one I ran was the stock SR20 in a 240sx and it wasn't much of a fight.

 

sr20det is a badass engine really.

especially red tops.

just be weary of a car sportin an sr20det, minor upgrades yield real results.

 

the sr20 is a bad ass motor!!! they are very fast stock

Anyway if you want to know how much power these things have you're in luck. My best friend has S13 with a red top SR20 in it. He has simple mods that he installed at the time of the swap. 3" DP, FMIC, HKS BOV, intake, MBC. It threw down 247 RWHP @ 14.5 PSI. This is the boost limit of the T25, beyond this it starts choking itself. This power was thrown down at 2200 ft above sea level. Good luck buddy.

 

Slight mods really wake them up. When the motor was completely stock with the stock g20 exhaust he lost to my low 14 second SHO pretty bad. Then he got the JWT ECU, 3'' turboback exhaust, and the intake pipe, the boost went from 5psi to what it's supposed to run, 7psi. He slaughtered the hell out of me, I'm talking like 10-15 carlenths lol. With the addition of s4 cams and on just 13psi that car ran neck and neck with my stock GTO. On 7psi, he walked that 290whp GTi, hard.

So yea, if it's a well put together swap with a few choice mods you're going to get ****** anniahlated. But chances are it's some ricer moron who has no idea whats going on and you might win.

 

dude hack ur gonna get ur ******* reemed.... with out lube... at 8psi on a redtop hes prolly makin 220-250 dependin on wat he has dun to it that he hasnt told u bout... plus the 240 is really light.... (power to weight ratio).... since its swapped id almost bet u he has sum form of exhaust... so watch out... 20 roll- shut down.. i say the 240 has u by round 2 cars....

and 383 is BS my buddy has a rb25 swap in his 240 in it only made 309 stock... i dont c sr20 makin that much witout a turbo upgrade and cams...

and cobalt driver... u dont have to break it in!!!! its swapped.... not a built engine....

d00d....i'm sorry but if your a 2.2 with bolt ons and a 90 shot...you might make the same power as that sr20 swapped 240. and unless this kid is a non driver your prolly gonna get destroyed.

i agree with OzzyRuleZ....if youre that confident just go ahead and race him. the worst thing that can happen is that you lose. then you can blame it on the fact that your n/a and he's fi.

 

Actually 8psi on a red top is stock boost, and a redtop makes ~205 crank hp stock

 

my buddy ran a 13.7 on 8psi (just the sr20det swap, no intake, exhaust or anything else aftermarket) he was a good driver tho.

tell him ull race him even if he wants 18lbs (18 should be too much with stock injectors)

That's weird, did he have drag radials?

When the 180sx first came out it could only pull off a 14.5 with an SR20DET, and it's 90lbs lighter than a 240sx

yea it didnt register at first that you said redtop. my other friend has a notch top (its fast as hell) i had a sentra with a bluebird sr20 conversion and fully forged and 25lbs boost on a gt32 with slicks... it was pretty quick

 

my buddies s13 was on 7psi stock( could have been the tomei gauge) and by turnin it up 1 psi wit a MBC full exhaust n intake he made 220 whp.....

and the black top s14s came wit a nissan version of VTEC and larger turbo.... ill quote the article when i get home about the differences between the sr20dets....

but needless to say i dont c u beatin the 240
