It is more so lack of driver abilities and wheel hop happens 1 out of 20 launches. I am running 0 torque reduction on mine with the stock tires and can launch it like a MF.
As for transmission issue the TBSS uses the same 4L70 (M70) as the gasoline 6.0L 900 series GM trucks.
This thread makes me
And yet, I have seen a particular GTO owner on this site mention that he roll races all the time. If I had a GTO, I would wanna run from a stop without a doubt.
I can't afford to break the rear end (seen many when I worked for GM). They are about $1,600.00 each. Not little $75.00 axles like the SS that I had to replace 3 times.
Besides, like I say...Roll racing is what you run into on the street since cars are moving. In a big city like phoenix it is hard to be the front car at a stoplight with the car you want to race. If you want to run a decent car it's going to have to be whenever you get the chance. I also go to tracks, I just haven't with the GTO yet.
Definitely! That's why I have my rear end insert on the way, to prevent wheel hop. I have never launched the GTO from first gear, because the wheel hop in 2nd gear is worse than it was on the cobalt in 1st gear. That rear end can flatten pavement.

tell me the car doesn't have it in i ******* trap higher than almost everyone i have seen 86.40 in the 1/8th is more than good enough for 12's you just have a hard time swallowing it don't you
haha tough yeah or try 2900#, 4.05 gear, over 270whp and 215 pirellis quit biching
drag racing really sure it wasn't reckless or carless driving i got pulled over tuning my car 2 90 in a 45 it was a speeding ticket

You should go race at a 1/4 mile track. Those are good speeds for 1/8 mile for sure. Should back it up with a 1/4 track so you can really stand out. 1/8 mile is a lot less common for bench marking, and most people don't know how to relate the 2.

You cannot in any way shape or form base or estimate a 1/4 run off of a 1/8 run.
By the way it isn't the weight, power or gear ratio that makes your car suck from a dig. It's simple physics pulling weight off the drive wheels under acceleration.
Oddly enough a GTO's IRS or 245 tires has little to do with it's launching abilities. It has more to do with the whole 350whp/360FtLbs.

I can tell you it won't prevent it altogether but it will drastically reduce it

that is really low you're right. I've seen ls1 goats with lt's, tune, and cat-back dyno 340-350. i still think about getting rid of my v6 mustang for a gto from time to time. I could straight trade my 2006 v6 for a yellow 2004 ls1 with 20k miles on it....hmmmm...

I dyno'd 330whp with long tubes and a tune in 110* fully heat soaked on my LS1. I'm going back in a month or two for another run.

i had planned on turboing the v6 because there are a few guys on MF running 11's on the stock blocks/trannies with just a few suspension mods, an 8.8" and this turbo kit i was looking at, but now i am thinking wait a minute....what is gonna be my daily driver?! i know i should trade it in or sell it and get the ls1 gto, but honestly... for me, that is like ******* a fat chick because she has a tight *****. i might have to do it though LOL!

Yeah, my Cobalt used to roast from 45mph through second.
I think he may be referring to the the car kicking sideways when you shift to second. Sometimes it feels like you are going to do a donut. But my Cobalt also spun so hard it switched lanes without turning the wheel.

Wrong. The combination of; soft motor/transmission mounts, rubber joints on a 2 piece drive shaft, and crappy rear diff mout causes the wheel hop you get...the hp/tq just make it more apperent for those who can't launch.

my gxp was a lot worse. guess that is what happens with bunches of torque on the front wheels

And shitty tires too. The pirellis would let go of the road like stealing candy from a baby. The KDWs took a lot of power to break lose and lose control of.
