LT1 knowledge needed

My neighbors got a 6mt LT1 z28, hes blown it up 2 or 3 times. car gets more wrenching than action.

last summer he put in a LT1 motor with stock bottom end, ported and polished stock heads and what sounds like a pretty aggressive cam along with a 4.10 rear end

He raced one of his friends SSTC's last summer and lost due to the LT1 breaking up at high rpm. but claims to have waxed numerous other ss balts.

He says his car should be making 385whp, but lost to his friends 330whp LT1

so.... anyone know how quick he should be? I dont think i wanna play with him untuned

thanks for any input

Why is he racing if his car is all jacked up?

You will get tore up if it starts running right, but if he lost to his 330hp friend, I question his heads package (not to mention just head-work does not get a stock bottom lt1 into the 380hp range!!)

id race him if I were you.

I dont think he would be anywhere near the HP he claims to have, but he should easily be over 300whp and 300wtq, and should quite frankly be in the 12's in the 1/4 mile.

it really depends on what kind of cam he has but 385rwhp is pretty easy for a lt1 with ported heads and a cam. Stock lt1 heads dont flow that well thats why they dont have the topend like a LS1 but if they are ported right lt1's are beast. Most go with Lloyd elliot or AI check it outhttp://www.elliottsportworks.com/lt1.html

a good heads/cam combo for the most part is a gaurantee of power up in the rev band

well my lt1 was putting down 300whp with just a few boltons.

heads and cl really wake those things up. ill tell you this lt1s for the most part are meant to be driven like big block cars. rev them to 5500 then shift if he is revving it out like a small engine then you know he doesnt know what hes doing and you should be able to take him easy

some LT's age poorly. After a cam and valvetrain upgrade I only put down 288 RWHP a few years back, shortly there after the motor popped.
