LT1 vs SS/SC
LT1 vs SS/SC
My buddy has a 95 lt1 with 30,000 miles on it and it is well maintained it has longtube headers, and off road y pipe, stock cat baxk, and a cai. I pretty much have the intense stage 5 minus the proted blower with my custom tuning and i also have cab's and the intense tranny mounts. Im on stock clutch though who wins the race from a dig to 100? Also who wins from 50-100 from a roll? I'm fimilar with f body's being as everyone in my family pretty much has one. Also i am for sure those are the only mods he has in his car.
Is the LT1 an A4 or 6-speed and what gears does it have? My buddies got a z28 with the same mod list as your friends and runs a 13 flat consistantly on DR's and around 13.3 on street tires....BUT he also has 180,000 miles on the motor untouched just taken care of. His is an A4 on a stock stall. Not very knowledgeable on the Stage 5's performance...but I would think it would be a drivers race from a roll, I would give the advantage to the LT1 from a dig. Again, anyone w/ stage 5 correct me if I'm being underacheiving.
His car pulls good up to 75 or 80 but then it just kind of dies off. LT1's are tq monsters, weird thing though is his is on new michelen tires and in first gear if he punches it he can't spin.
Yeah LT1's are known for their top end not being that great...well at least compared to the latter LS1. I'm assuming this won't be done at the track? That'll probably work out in your favor (street wise). Is he a decent driver?

A 13 second stocl LT1 is as common as a stock 12 second LS1.
I had 2 LT1's and two LS1's I managed to run a 13.9 @100mph in one of my LT1's and a 12.89 in one of my LS1's but it took practice. Neither times were average or consistant runs.
It also takes much more than LT headers on a LT1 to match a LS1. Anyone who says LT's make a LT1 run 13 flat is full of **** PERIOD.
When it comes to LT1 vs SS/SC it's a drivers race from a dig but from a roll the advantage goes to the SS/SC.

i have an all stock 1997 camaro lt1 6m, i ran a 14.2 at 97 mph, the best longtubes out there may give 30 hp and a cai is good for maybe another 5-10, if hes a good driver, your up against probley a 13.5
Lt1s stock run 13.8-14.3 or so. My best stock was 13.9@96 mph. My best run with the bolt is 14.85 @ 95mph. (only have about a half dozen runs with it. I suck at FWD).
Autos are easier at just as quick as the manuals.(actually, someone with the m6 may be able to get .1 out of the eta. But there is a higher chance that they would fail. I would feel more comfertable running the m6 than the a4)
So. My cobalt traps higher than the camaro. The camaro almost a second faster in the quarter. Which means...
Dont put money on a race from the dig. get him to go from a roll. Try around 40 mph or so. If you do 50-100 you should get him. The camaro is going to pull from 1st-mid 2nd. And if its an A4 its going to back that 1-2nd shift really freakin quick :-)

People read to much into things on the internet. I had a 1994 Trans Am GT with an automatic and 3.23 gears, I also had a 1996 Formula with an automatic and 2.73 gears.
The horsepower rating for 1994 was 275 and the dual catted 1996 was rated ten more putting it at 285hp.
Both cars ran low really 14's at around 100mph, the only difference really being the 1996 shifting into third right at the line while the 1994 was already in third. I netted 13's once in each car but low 14's was average.
I added the same mods to both cars SLP CAI, LT4KM, high flow muffler, SLP air foil and Hypertech tuning. Even then that yielded little true gain maybe a tenth or two once and a while or maybe a MPH a few runs.
Unlike LS1's the fastest LT1'a are usually A4 cars.
