Hey guys,

I'm such a newbie.. I was driving home from class last night and a little ricer pulled up next to me revving the **** outta his engine.. it honestly looked like a VW Rabbit with a huge exhaust and somethin spoolin ( i knwo nothing of other cars )

Well, we both punch it, and my 2.4 auto redlines at like 7k rpms, i had to take my damn foot off the gas to get it to shift, is this normal? the freaking 'Rabbit' (if thats what it actually was) pulls on me and walks me (i was on the cell phone talking to my fiance so I couldnt put it in I or L and play the shifting game.

Now there was no traffic and it was a straight away for as far as i can see, with no place for cops to sit.

This thing was the size of a geo metro.. am i just that sucky at racing?

lol, im mainly confused as to why my car redlined. I didnt think auto's were able to do that considering its electronically controlled?

What did I do wrong here other then talking on the cell phone...

you could have shifted at 4 grand and still beat it,your rev limiter is 6500 any thing after that is basically shutdown,thats unless you have an aftermarket tune to raise your redline,dont forget your first gear is just a lead out gear,dont max it,then give it hell 2nd through 5th

When you say it redlined was it bouncing off of redline or did it just get up there?

Awesome advice, except I thought Auto's shifted itself... or am i supposed to let off the gas to get it to shift?

It got to like 7.25k and i got skeered and took my foot off the gas.. it didnt really bounce

I thought I heard of this before (me bad, did not see you are auto) there was some reason someone before had this happen to them their auto did not shift out,they took it to the dealer for a fix,cant remember what it was though

If youre getting past 7k you are either custom tuned, bs'ing, or confused as to what you actually saw. Thats the only way to make sense of what you are saying.

As for redlining, yes you can redline it if you floor it at certain speeds/gears. The computer will detect WOT plus a few other factors and will take you up to redline, then it will shift. I would have kept my foot down if I were you.

Nah im totally stock, just got my car inspected and an oil change on saturday. I seriously don't know enough to BS.. I know a little to get me in trouble but not enough to try to fool the people who know what they are doing.. It would be really hard to be confused and mistaking 7.25k rpms for something different.

I mean, if i was Legally blind I probably would think that the 2.25 was 7.25.. but then your not taking into account the needle position...

Ah dunno, I'm gonna attribute it to a fluke, that I suck at racing and hopefully can redeem myself at a later time. Next time I get a chance, I'm gonna try flooring it and see if it goes back to that range of RPMS..

Maybe I have a problem like g5mike stated.

I've never had a problem just flooring mine. Done it countless times. Who knows maybe your car hic-cuped or something.

Yeah could of been a hiccup i guess.

I'm just kinda disheartend. Its definatly not fun watching a little ass car that sounds like it's a klanky desiel engine blow past ya. Especially from a dig.

I'm thinking I need to get my butt up to the track in PA and try to figure out launches.
