ok well i had to race my buddy last night since it was his last night stock... i have gmpp stg I, 2.8 (i know its too small but, w/e i am waiting on my new 2.9), and intake... we went from a 40 roll twice and both times went like this...

he pulled on me 3/4 of a car right away... i was slowly gaining on him in second when he shifed and i caught up to about his hood... then i shifed and dropped to about is passenger door and stayed there all the way till just over a hundred...

i just had to see what my car would do against him...

 

Hmmm. I put 5cars on one from 35. Definitely a good, fun kill.

 

that seems a little weird to me.

you have instant boost, he has a turbo....his AWD doesnt give him an advantage at a 40 roll.....you should have been the one putting cars on him at the start....

thats exactly what i thought, so on the second race i made sure that i got on it quick and it was the exact same result... i had a passenger in my car but i really doubt that it made that much of a difference... it was fun and i just thought i would share since i always see threads on here about people wondering what our cars do against an evo so i figured i would share. o and evolve he is putting a downpipe, catback, and a tune so it doesnt look like we will have to many more close races. lol.

 

oh believe me! Passenger makes a BIG diff in these cars. Before when My friend had unturboed acura. We used to be dead even from 40 to 100. Put a 150 lbs passenger on either car and we would put about 3 cars on each other at this same distance.

hmmm passenger will definately effect the outcome of the race...try racing a ss/sc stock vs stock and 1 person has a passenger. its quite noticable.


maybe he was just good at brake boosting on the fly.....did you hear his turbo spooling at all before the last honk?

 

What gear were you in at 40mph? You definitely should have pulled a few lenghts on him from a roll like that. Very interesting needless to say.

 

He jumped because he was brake boosting! You should have edged him out but since he brake boosted he got that edge he needed not to metion evos have great top end.

 

???? Stock???? Negative. AWD cars(ie evo, sti,etc) have very weak top end due to the efficiency of the turbo, when stock.

 

and it was a stock evo right? and Alex I have the video of you and phillip; I will upload it to me and Kims website today and give you the link so you can download it, pretty much same story in each race you put ~1 car on him.

 

was it an evo 8 or 9? that would clear things up a bit. And yes if it was an 8 you should have walked on him with or without a passenger. If what you raced was a 9 the story sounds about right. Just cause its AWD doesn't mean it automatically can't do rolls. Also just cause you have a super charger doesnt mean you get to hop out 5 cars automatically. His short 6 speed gearing will get him moving pretty quick also.

 

He said it was an 06; so that would make it a 9, assuming he wasnt wrong about the year of the car.

 

Assuming it was a 9 The story has enough truth init to be real. Evo 9's are no easy kills stock or not. Back when i had a 3 inch pulley one walked me from a 40 roll and HE had the passenger. I was traping 101 consistanly back then which made no sense to me. And his ass was stock. Evos are some funny ass cars. you would almost think they werent AWD sometimes. And 9's basically have a cam and a 20G stock im honestly not surprised when i hear these "evo beat me from a roll" stories these days.

Not to be an ass, but evo9s dont have the 20g stock. That is the next "step up" on an evo from the stock 16g(td05 16g). But I do agree with you on some points. It definately is faster than an evo8 stock vs stock.

I'm not gonna type anything and say its fact and front like i know all the facts but from what i under stand its a 16G with a bigger hot side so it flows Almost much air as a 20G? worded funny but you get what im saying any input would be apreciated, if you agree or disagree.

 

if he knows how to drive he would be at peak boost before either of them hit it.

 

awd cars having bad top ends isn't necessarily because of the efficiency of the turbo... it's the huge drivetrain power loss compared to fwd or rwd. The efficiency of the turbo may be PART of the problem, but the biggest problem is the awd itself.

 

No it isn't. The biggest problem is the turbo and then for the pre 07 STIs gearing is the next biggest.

 

okay well correct me if i am wrong..but arent the Evolution MR s like 400 whp and not available in the usa. he did say evo mr right?
