Performance Shifting
Performance Shifting
Hey guys and girls. I'm new to the forums, but have been reading some of the kill stories and I gotta say theyre funny as hell. Nice to hear that ss s/cs can still run with the big boys like evos, sti's, etc. I had a question though...I recently got my cobalt ss s/c and have put about 2200 miles on it, so my break in periods pretty much done. I wanted to get into a bit of modding and racing. What are the optimal times to shift out of the gears to hit that peak power band? I usually leave 1st about 3-4k, then the rest I ride out till about 5-6k. How do you all do it?
Mine is still completely stock and she pulled all the way to the limiter without easing up. I shift pretty close to 6500ish. My first time really getting on it, and I was waiting for the powerband to ease up before shifting...It didn't so I bounced it off the limiter, so...Everyone else will prob have other suggestions, especially depending on the mods they have.
First gear in these cars are ridiculous. Crazy short, and NO traction. If you get traction and don't have aftermarket axles, theres a good chance you may snap the stock ones especially when getting into the mods.
dont mean to hi-jack the thread, but how much do aftermarket axles cost and where can i find them?
back to topic... i always shift at 6300rpm. if i am powershifting i ease off a tiny bit at the top of first and after i shift to 2nd i slam the gas back down all the way. after that its smooth sailing!

thanks for all the responses...I definitely gotta get some perfomance upgrades to get the most outta this car. Some mods on my list are an injen CAI, stage 2 kit, corsa exhaust, ingalls torque damper, headers, some tuning, maybe some better injectors....depending on my cash flow
