Cobalt.. no doubt. My friend has the Sentra.. and I'm not gonna lie, I was not at all impressed. It's IS a great car. this is true, but it wasn't for me. and performance wise, everything I've read woudl lead me to believe that the SS would most likely own the Nissan. Seeing as the Redline and SS are basically the same thing, I'm pretty sure that you may have something with that not being a redline thing. just a straight up Ion? a'hunno.. Peace!
Basically, we all know the specs on the Cobalt inside and out
well.. what Chevy decides to keep from the pre-production one
But the Nissan has the 2.5L 175 hp 4 banger with 180 lb-ft's.. it's got an LSD... Hmm I suppose that's about it.. and one extra gear that it doesn't need
Kinda like the RSX-S

2005 Chevy Cobalt SS:
205 hp
200 ft/lbs torque
Compression Ratio 9.50 to 1
Weight 2806 lbs
Coefficient of Drag N/A
0 - 60 6.1 Seconds
2005 Nissan Spec-V:
175 hp
180 ft/lbs torque
Compression Ratio 9.50 to 1
Weight 2710 lbs
Coefficient of Drag .33
0 - 60 7 Seconds
IMO, besides the driver, all things being equal, I would say that the Cobalt would be quicker than a Spec-V. The Cobalt should run a 1/4 mile in high 14s seconds and the Spec-V would run it at about 15 seconds.

awesome guys thanks alot i just cant stand his nissan pride he comes home every day from work telling me bogus stories about cars he beats make me so.....
but thanks all for clarifying this for me!
The Spec V isnt that impressive of a car, plus it lacks forced induction. The SS would win really by default, from a stop, and most likely even a roll. The only way a Sentra (stock and with an exhuast/intake) would win against a cobalt SS...driver of the SS didn't know how to shift
. But as I have said, and will say never underestimate other cars, and their drivers, because there is always something better, and always a better driver.
In addition our car isn't out yet, but presumably its a logical assumption to know that the SS or the Redline is an overall faster car.

In a straight line a SS should have no problem with a Spec. I own an '04 Spec and it is far from a powerhouse. It was built for the twisties, not straight line drag racing. I will give the Spec credit though, for what it costs new it is a great handler and not too shabby right out of the box.

Good luck, and nice site
I used to own a 2002 Sentra 1.8 before I bought my Cobalt. It was definately not a drag race car, but it could definately hold its ground. It had excellent take off power because the max torque was at 2400rpms. My 2.2 ecotec definately kills the Sentra in top end power, but the Sentra definately killed the Cobalt in launching and passing power under 50mph.

I would think GMs upcoming 2.4L SS could take the Sentra. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
AS for a 1.8L Sentra beating a 2.2L eco-tec....maybe if the Cobalt was an auto and the Sentra a 5 speed. Even then I doubt it.
Driving back to back and judging by feel--is no substitute for getting some numbers from the track.

Am I missing something?
Why is it even a question that the Cobalt SS would beat a Nissan Sentra. Nissan claims 175hp and 180lb ft. Maybe everyone that says the cobalt would lose is blind but the SS is over 200 in both of those categories.... I think we should be talking about whether my cavalier can beat that nissan not the SS. This is a joke.
05 specv stock is 14.90 with a good driver and that is only two tenths slower than the cobalt ss, and it has no forced induction, that is all motor(stock)!
put a crappy driver in the SS or the ION and you have a good race it would be close but the only way to really fint out is to learn for yourself......and i like the SS to be honest with you and i almost thought about trading the SPECV in for the SS but i have not made up my mind yet.
Hmm, seems to me that on the webiste I was just looking at, that most of the stock Spec- V' were trapping in the high 80's in the 15's and the redline/ss/sc's are trapping in the high 90's.......
Stock for stock if the driver's were both good drivers, I would say the nissan should lose every time.
