SS 2.4 vs. 07' SI

this kid at my high school and i have been wanting to race ever since he saw my car...
we finally lined them up today... he is totally stock and i have an intake and exhaust...
we first go from a 10 mph role, and i pull him hard, he is probably at my front bumber, but little by little he starts to catch me... he is just about to pass me and misses third, i started busting up laughing!!! so we line up again but go from a dig, this time me and him are really even... by the time we hit about 90 or so we are even and had to shut them down due to traffic reasons...
i cant wait to get my header on this weekend to see if it will help make a difference!!!

Wow. Good, but should have been dealt with at the tracks. Street racing FTL!
How much WHP do SIs have? There's a kid at my college that has one but I've never actually seen the driver of it.

they're rated at 197 to the crank, so probably around 165-170 to the wheels.

What's so special about them? Aren't they a 4cyl?
I do know their interior is sexy. Very futuristic.

there's nothing special about them. same non-boosted honda as usual.

2.0L DOHC I-VTEC

decent amount of horsepower for n/a inline four, but still lackin in the torque area. rated at 197hp/139tq

Who cares about a lack of tq? The car is gear'd appropriately and makes much more torque, gear for gear, at the wheels than a 2.4SS.

They make around 175whp stock and with decent drivers they'll go mid-high 14's. Just a tiny bit slower than SS/SC's.

oh my bad, i forgot that 139tq at 6100rpm (civic si) is better than 167tq @ 4500rpm (2.4 ss)

so why are lightly modded 2.4's breaking dead even with lightly modded si's

an si with bolt ons is enough to get you close to the stock speed of a ss/sc, but without f/i the civic will never touch it. I still dont know why honda wont play the forced induction game.

actually it will. The si is between the 2.4 and the ss/sc stock and can be faster than an ss/sc with the RIGHT bolt ons.

it will what? yea it will be faster than a STOCK ss/sc. but once you race a modded ss/sc there's no competition.

if chevy can make a F/I sport compact in the $20,000 range, it shouldnt be a problem for honda.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, or you actually understand the concept. The statement is true though. 139tq @ 6100rpm (161hp) is better than 167tq @ 4500rpm (143hp).

Those tq outputs are just on the 1:1 ratio, factor in how much more steep the Hondas gears are, how much higher it revs, and start getting some actual wheel torque figures and you'll see that in this case 139tq > 167tq.

Here lets break it down nice and easy.

SS/NA is a mid 15 second car @ 90mph MAX.
Civic SI is mid-high 14's @ 94-96mph
SS/SC is ~mid 14's @ 97-98.

In a dream world. Reality is they're a mid 14 second car. If you wanna count the 1 guy that went 14.0 in a stock SS/SC then you have to count the 1 guy that went 14.0 in a stock Civic Si.

No they really are mid 14s with most drivers.

I have watched plenty of SS/SCs lose to RSX Type-S's running 14.6s
