SS/TC vs M3....

Well this is not a kill story nor a loss story.

So I was going down the howard franklin track in Tampa mexico, and there are no cars around me. All of a sudden a 4 Door M3 Pops up in my rear view closing in fast. I am in the passing lane exceeding the track speed limit by 10, and he stops next to me and paces me. It was a newer model some fancy blue color with the quad exhaust outlets toward the center. (I highly doubt it was the V8 model because this should not have happened.)

So I see this guy is obviously waiting for me to tap the throttle. There is no one in front of me for at least a mile, and the snow birds are starting to catch up from behind. So I tried the 3 honks thing. He went on the 2nd honk, I NLS'd into 3rd and stayed right beside him. I took it all the way to the top of 4th nearing 140, and he was still in the same place we took off from. When I slowed down his front bumper was at my side view mirror.

So this guy is thinking WTF, I am in an M3 this should not be happening, I want to honk this time. So he did the honk thing, and he and I went on his 2nd honk. (Guess he has never heard of 3 honks) We started from 75 this time, so I just nailed it into 3rd, NLS'd into 4th, and we both were still with each other, then magic happened. I shifted into 5th. I SLOWLY started to make my way from him, and in the end he finally was behind my rear bumper.

This was not a kill or a loss, more like a drivers race/stalemate. I know from a dig he would have gotten me, but that isn't where he picked to race.

Nope just mods in sig + driver mod. (I used to race in SCCA and NASA-X. Still have my membership, just have not been active the past year.)

You can't do 140 in fourth gear.

obviously you need reader mod. "I took it all the way to the top of 4th nearing 140"
I didn't say I went 140

If you want a real number, it was between 135-137 in 4th. (I had the mph displayed on my RPD.)

I don't know about yours, but my 4th goes well over 130.... maybe you are shifting too early. 138 would be bouncing off the rev limiter, but it will do 138 in 4th.

And I never back peddled on my ****, you just come in with your "auto call BS mode" on.
I simply pointed out what I already said. Also a little help with numbers, go check out what the car is geared for and tire sizes, you get 138 for 4th, something ridiculous like 173 for 5th. The math is there, and I can verify 135-137 in 4th.

Stock from a roll I would think you would be faster than an M3, so I am not calling BS on that...

Wrong.

I own an E46 M3 (6 cyl) and it was neck and neck with my SS/TC when it was stock. Now with the tune it is much quicker then the M3, but even still it would have a hard time hanging with the E92 V8 M3's

There are only 3 possibilities for this race to have happened as described....

1. The M3 was actually an E46 and the OP didnt realize it.
2. It was an M3 convertable which weighs in at over 4000 lbs. (They are not very fast, but still quicker then a stock SS/TC)
3. The driver of the M3 was driving a stick and is an AWFUL driver...which doesn't tell much about which car is quicker.

Interesting read from the OP, but if you are still on a stock tune there is no way you could even hang with the M3 that had any sort of decent driver. Even though you stated the quad exhaust, are you sure it wasnt a 335i? That would make more sense.

It was definitely an M3 unless the guy really went out of his way to get every appearance item for the car. It had a bulge on its hood, and looked real fancy. And was pretty bas ass sounding at full throttle. It sounded like he was shifting well since I was right next to him. Maybe it was an SMG model... I dunno, I was not in the other car. All I know is what happened. I have raced a 335 before, and this was much faster than the 335. I can pull away from a 335, I couldn't pull away from this (hard.).

you shouldnt be able to pull away from a 335i with a stock TC, theyre sub 5 to 60 and 107mph trap speeds

That makes sense. I am 100% sure that it was an E46.

what you guys don't seem to realize is that he said it was a 4 door m3, now the e46 did not come as a sedan only the earlier models of the m3 came as sedans......Also op, they are only one engine for the e92 m3 and its a v8, so you didn beat the car , but def the driver....but then again the e92 m3 is not that much better than the e46....the only defference is that the newer m3 have v8 and better top end

Saw the same car again today at the international mall of tampa mexico. I took a closer look at it. It was a re badged 335i sedan with all M3 accouterments except for the wheels. (I figured it out because he was parked right next to a 335i hard top vert.) Same wheels. Had some fancy exhaust on there too. Also no M3 badging was inside the car. (I had to sneak a peek.)

Sorry about the confusion everyone, all bimmers look the same to me. Dude had everything down to the bulging hood.
