SS vs. GTI.. modded
First post in the forum.. currently drive a 98 Volvo C70... so im a turbo guy. my black ss is on the way. what does everyone think of a cobalt ss vs a chipped 1.8t GTI.. my gf is pushin about 230 to the wheels.. the GTi is ***** fast in 2nd gear and eats my volvo off the line.. but from a roll.. volvo all the way. Anyone raced a new Stang GT?.. i personally hate the car and would love to beat some. thanks

Not sure about the chipped GTI, but a Stock GTI makes 180hp and 0-60 in 7.6 seconds and does the 1/4 mile in 16.0 seconds, and the Cobalt SS is doing 0-60 in 6.0 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 14.5 seconds. But if she is making 230hp at the wheels and the cobalt is only putting down 217hp to the wheels then she may take you, but for a stock one you would blow the doors off it.

oh no a stock gti will run a high 14 or a low 15. and a chiped 1.8t goes up to 225+ at the wheels. so tht makes this car somewhere in the low to mid 14's depending on the driver. numbers curtousy of dragtimes.com

I'll keep a look out in the parking lot... I'm one of the them who walks up Brasch for a pickup so I'll give a wave if I see your car, I think it's the only Cobalt in the lot?
...enjoy the SS!

I was reading a WRX forum one day and I came across a threat just bashing to death the GTI. Personally I like them, nice interior and decent power. I'm not out to race everybody, if you have a fast car then I'll give you respect, even if it's slower than what I'm driving.
I was going to buy a WRX innitally but I went with the Cobalt. I'm happy with my decision.
I was also shopping for a 2000-2001 Audi S4. I decided against the S4 because it would cost too much to maintain and repair.
However, I'd love to see a Stage 3 S4 run against a WRX. I think it might change their opinion of german cars! It would be like VW's big brother teaching the WRX what a REAL import is

I would expect better than that. My 1997 cavalier was at 130,000 when I sold it, it still ran fine with no problems.
You could always do an engine swap.. try to squeeze in the Audi 2.7 Bi-Turbo

How about the R32? Now there's a GTI that will probably be able to beat the SS without doubt. I'd imagine it would still be fairly close. A guy I used to work with had an R32. It has some power and a very nice interior as far as quality goes, but was practically unable to spin the tires at all due to all wheel drive, so it wasn't as 'fun' to drive.

.. oh and by the way, the R32 is an awsome car.. but only has about what my gf's car is pushin.. around 230 i believe.. and its got 4 motion, which most people dont know isn't all time AWD (only when needed)... not much car for a hefty pricetag.

i gots my hot durango that i love to death now, but im getting a cobalt ss in black or red, depends what the dealer can get me, he says he probably cant find a black one but he has a red one in stock, so i will probably end up getting that. But i will race i get it next week. Or we could team up on mustangs, i have seen so many going down 36 lately. But if u see a silver durango pimped out its me just wale on the horn and i will be like nice. pm sometime about it
