I ran against one for 4 different pulls and it was dead ***** even (he had another 150 lbs of person with him too). BTW: I run 14.1 on street tires, 13.8 on DR's in my car.

Your gf can't drive then. Is hers MT or AT? The one I ran against had MT, and that would probably make the difference.

manual.. and she can drive.. and considering ive also drivin it.. i can vouch for the fact that its not faster than my own SS.. stock 1.8ts are running in the mid to upper 15's.. and even a VR6 doesnt break 15's

What chip gives her car 230 whp? What other mods does she have? Two of my buddies, one has a GTI, and the other a Jetta. Both 1.8Ts. Both chipped, exhuast, CAI, Turbo Inlet pipes, J valves,. They would be lucky to get 210 whp. APR chip, for example, will get you 215 hp to the crank. Are you confusing WHP for the crank numbers? There's people with those mods running mid 13's. A chipped k04 turbo would be lucky to make 230whp without laughing gas. lol

shes running a giac chip.. one of the best vw chips on the market... maybe it is crank hp.. i was led to believe that it was 230 whp. but idk why you say that about their cars.. a 1.8t comes stock with 180 hp (crank).. and with all those mods.. they should be higher than that. the giac chip is said to have a 50 hp increase.. but it quite possibly could be to the crank.

Yeah, its the crank numbers. I say that about the 1.8T's because like I said, two of my buddies have them, and they are very well modded, and sitting at work reading this with me. lol
Straight from the GIAC site, "GIAC performance software for the 1.8T smoothly delivers a 25-30 hp and ~50 ft-lbs gain.". That's for the 180hp version of the 1.8T So that's roughly 205-210 crank HP. It gives 45-50 hp gains with the 150hp version of the 1.8T. But yields about 10 hp less total output.
With pretty much all bolt-ons, with a stock turbo, the most WHP a 1.8T will see is anywheres between 200-220, depending on dyno, and conditions.
Not trying to be a jerk, but I just wanted to correct some info you stated. Don't want the wrong info being leaked out.
What other mods does your girls car have? Are you two bringing her whip to Waterfest this year. It can't be too far of a drive from you.

My Brother has a Jetta GLI (with the 1.8T) with a Stage 2 package from APR and he puts out somewhere in the range of 220 WHP and 250 WTQ and my SS will do some good walking on his. It's pretty close to 60 but after that it isn't a race. Plus he has a 6 speed but it weighs 3100 Lbs.

PaulSS,

If you have a Turbo Volvo, why are you buying a Cobalt? I used to have an 850 Turbo and still troll over in Volvospeed.com forums, and from everything I read there, Turbo Volvos can't be beat. Hell, even my SRT-4, that would kill my old 850, wouldn't stand a chance against the bricks over there!
