Thumbs up Stuff concerning the SS

Got a couple things to ask and say...

First, has anyone contacted chevy or found out for sure if a cat back is going to void warrantyon the SS, if so does it have to be dealer installed?

Second, I swear i am not BSing any of these-

All of these took place on the highway-

Hung with a stock 350Z with a couple of 60 and 70 roll ons, i kick it in third surprise the crap out of this guy. Got the thumbs up from this guy afterwards.

Laughed my ass off as i watched an Ion Redline completely blow a shift trying to race me, so that was pretty much a one sided race, but it was worth watching the guy's girlfriend laugh at him from the passeger seat.

Had an SRT-4 try to punk me but after he got on it starting out about 2 car lengths ahead of me rolling from about 60, needless to say i was gaining on him till about 110 when we let off because of traffic, also thumbs up from him.

On the streets in town a Dodge Stealth with a fart pipe thought he had a chance put it in second from about 40 and left his ass way behind me.

So if this is any clue as to how the SS stands up hope it pays off in your cruising.

A friend of a friend has a G35 and still hasn't stepped up and raced me. He was all happy with it, till I got an SS, and now he's talking about getting all sorts of mods. I think he's stalling until he does. Honestly, the performance numbers are a little more in his favor, although still pretty close, but he doesn't want to take a chance I guess...

The only part of your warranty you void by putting a Catback on is your exuast warranty, I'm not sure if everyone words it wrong or just see's it wrong, If you put a Catback on of course they wont touch your exuast if it messes up but if your A/C doesnt work or your lights dont work, or if your motor blows for that matter they still have to fix everything except the exuast.

Thats what I said... It doesnt void anythign except for itself. You cant put an aftermarket Muffler or CAI on your car and expect the dealer to fix the part you put on if it breaks, so that par is "void"

i think it voids more than suspension, just because u are lowering the entire car and chasi, and if something goes wrong due to the lowering of the car they will not repair it. But ne ways that hot that u got the thumbs up from a 350z. Thats what i like to see a freindly race lol. But nice stories

Thats tough that could void the entire underside of the car....

Thats a tough one, honestly you can just go ask any MR GOODWRENCH you can find...

That sounds like a bad idea to me though prob would void suspension, brakes, wheels, exuast and anything else exposed under the car...

Technically, per the Magnussen-Moss Warranty Act (look it up if you want), aftermarket parts can only void your warranty if the dealer can reasonably prove that the new part CAUSED the failure.

A Cat-back can void much more than just the catback. If it somehow makes significantly more heat near the some other part which causes that part to break, then it will be voided. An exhaust Header pretty much voids everything inside of the engine and tranny if the tranny is near the header.

I think this about sums it up. I would suggest that for any mods made to the car, that you enure you're dealing with a reputable shop. I personally would not use anyone else other than a GM authorized shop. There will eventually be a lot of bolt-on mods for the Cobalts in the very near future and there's no reason why these parts would void your warranty, as long as they were installed by GM Goodwrench techs. That's my best educated guess on the matter. Does it make sense???

everyone is so concerned about the warranty. Dealers most of the time dont even notice you have stuff done.

Unless you've got a stage 3 turbo and CAI sticking out...be pretty hard to miss that!

Overall I would be careful what mods you make to your car and consult your GM service prior to bolting anything on. I think Blainestang is right in that service has to prove without a doubt that the modification caused the fault...though when it comes to turbos, superchargers and headers it may be a different story unless it's a GM part and installed by a licensed GM service department...I'm going to check my handbook after work to see if there is any mention of it in there.
