TVS Redline vs. Whipple 07 Mustang GT

This race happened a while ago, late summer shortly after I dropped to the 2.7. So, one really nice evening my girlfriend and I went on a walk near my shop, and over the hill I heard a loud blower whine and tire spin and shortly after a mid 2000’s Mustang GT came over the hill on the brakes. It was really clean looking and the exhaust sounded great. I looked over at my girl and said “I hope I can find that guy sometime.” Well later that night I brought her home and was heading back to the shop and saw this same car sitting at a stoplight turning my direction. I saw that he couldn’t get out due to traffic so I just kinda let it go and didn’t think much of it. Well I turned off on the road that heads out towards my shop where there is no traffic and about a mile down the road I get stopped at a light and right before it turns green this guy and his wife pull up next to me! We take off normal and at about 20 he nails it and shifts to 2nd and get a little squirly then lets off. So of course I have to show him im game since its perfect, no cars or anything around, so I get about 2 cars behind him at 35 and hammer it in 2nd and the tires just scream on the brushed pavement until I let off right ahead of him. I slow down and get next to him at 40 and he points ahead and I nod. I don’t think he knew the 3 honk thing so I just signaled for him to go when he was ready. We both dropped to 2nd and he looked over and I nodded again and he took off. I was ready and hit it right after him only dropping about a half car back. I pedal’d the car through 2nd while staying a half car back and grabbed 3rd and started to pull back, and got about a car ahead by the top of 3rd, grabbed 4th and I pulled about another car by 120 or so and let off. We slowed down and started talking we ended up going to my shop to check out each others cars. I found out he owns an asphalt company down the street (small world) and he said he sees our cars outside all the time. I asked him about his and he said its an 07 and has a whipple blower, but wasn’t sure of the size since he bought it off a wrecked car. It also has injectors, intake, catback, and a canned tune that whipple flashed on to his ECU when he sent it in. We Bs’d for a while and I snapped a pic of his engine bay before he took off.

Sorry for the novel. It was just a good time

Here's a pic of his setup

Im not sure what Im putting down, although there will be a dyno near my town pretty soon so I can finally see lol. Only indication of power I have is that my car trapped 116mph at the 1/4 mile strip on 26" tall slicks that kill my top end...but unfortunately my tires and stock clutch had other ideas so my times werent too good lol!

As for him, he said whipple told him with full exhaust he could expect ~525 hp at the crank but I dont really know how true that is. And he just had catback for exhaust.

With that trap speed you are more than likely in the 350-360whp range.

Nice run man!

I'm with Fryloc on this..
An ecotec car could never beat a mustang.... EVER
Unless its on like a 300 shot and has the ss/sc wing and some underglow

You forgot that it must have a fartcan as well.

I though, do believe OP. How much does a stang weigh? And an IRL is what, like 2,900 lbs?

It's possible. I think.

Thanks guys.

Considering the fact that the GT500 traps around 113-115mph with 550bhp, and the 07 GT weighs just north of 3600lbs, and he had a passenger I dont see why its not believable. If I had a passenger it would have been filmed, but sometimes I drive my car alone

Oh and I was supposed to get a vid of me running a gt500 as well, but the kids dad sold it and bought him a Boss 302 or whatever instead lol must be rough

I doubt he is putting down 500+hp on the canned whipple tune... end. I can see this one coming out that way, only one person in the ion, 2 in the stang, plus with ethanol and a tvs, you are putting down some good power. I have seen a stock new 5 liter beat a sc 4.6 stang... both autos.

good run op

I was looking on some forums and saw some of the guys that pulley down and get custom tunes with full bolt ons lay down 500+whp but the guys that just bolt it on with a base map were putting down 420-440whp. I saw the car outside his shop on a trailer so that means its either going to storage for the winter or he is taking it to go make more power

Thanks man. The guy was really cool, maybe next spring I can get another run in and get it on film. Back in the day on stage 2 I hung within a couple cars of a steggy blown 4.6 that had a 2.8 pulley with a **** tastic tune that ended up popping his motor. The car now has an MMR shortblock with ported heads and a whipple 3.4 and some kind of cams and it layed down 703whp on 26 psi...so its pretty mean lol

Holy baby jeeeezuz a whipple 3.3 (they make a 3.3l/rev the next size up is a 4.0l/rev unless he has it ported maybe he added that to the displacement) on a built block... he can do better than 703 I think lol

I thought he said 3.4, but I guess maybe its a 3.3. To be fair, he made 703whp and 701tq on STOCK navigator heads and cams on the MMR block in the old GT on 26psi then dropped pulleys to 30psi. Then he found his dream terminator cobra in orange that had a stock block with set of good heads on it and some stage 3 blower cams I guess, so he swapped the motors and put the good heads on the MMR block with the blower cams. After winter it will be back to the dyno on the new setup, should make north of 800whp

Sounds like he is playing musical engine parts it also sounds like its going to be a really basass car. I am seriously considering a new shelby gt 500 to do some stuff like that to. But the new 5.8l that's coming out is easily a 800whp block... just need some heads, pully, cam and exhaust to compliment an E85 tune. Ahhh the joys of having a girlfriend that works at a dealership
