Unexpected results... GM 2.9 SS/SC vs SVT Lightning

well, i dont often get to have fun in the car like most of you guys but tonight i felt a little frisky. On the way home from a buddies house i was enjoying the night when a blown (sn 95 gen II) mustang gt rolls up beside me and revs.. i of course rev back and laugh because i knew i did not stand a chance.. but **** i will play.. well, sadly he turned off the highway about 10 seconds later but oh what joy a SVT lightning (last body years) was behind him and i could tell it had exhaust and possibly a smaller pully (more then likely opened up the intake for more of the lovely whine).. i nudge the peddle for a sec and instantly he nudged back so i knew tonight would be fun.. i would finally get to face somebody i was wanting to test where i rank in line knewing i would more then likely get whipped like hell..

first race we slowed down to about a 60 mph roll and went on 3.. instantly i jumped ahead about 1/2 car length and slowly started pulling away.. we shut down around 110 and i was a solid 3-4 lengths ahead... i was shocked and called bullshit.. had to be a mishift or something...

svt rolls back up beside me and i give him a thumbs up and i get no reaction .. no window roll down to be cool or nothing.. i know he is pissed, he just got his ass whipped by an inferior car in his opinion on the outside line of a gradual turn! this time i slow to his speed.. this time we start at around 35-40mph.. no harm.. 2nd gear is great here.. 3 honks and we are off.. instantly he pulls on me about a fender but i gradually pull about 1 car length ahead and mishift into 3rd and when i recover i am exactly nose to tail with him.. by the end of third.. i had reeled him completely in and had a a fender lead on him going in to 4th where we shut down due to traffic in the distance...

overall i was extremely shocked by the outcome.. i have had a few races that have had similiar outcome with various cars that left me thinking.. damn..wtf how?!

I actually thought about buying a 2004 Lightning when they had like $4,500 in rebates in late 2004.

They were really quick until they hit 3rd then it was like a set of air brakes came up.
