versus CLK Kompressor

So was coming back from the store and ran into a Mercedes CLK (not sure which CLK) but I did see "Kompressor" on the side. We toyed around a bit for two lights, then we finally went at it. I thought it'd put up more of a fight than it did. At about 15 over the limit, I let off and was already a car length ahead. I don't know Mercedes enough to tell which one it was, but I'm doing some looking. It may have been an early 2000 type model, 2001, or 02'ish, but I'm not really sure. I'm going to try to do some looking to find out.

At anyrate, to make himself feel better, he had to continue on and then get in my lane after I let off

Mercedes has never made a CLK "Kompressor" , not North America anyway - they've always been N/A (older models had a 3.2L V6, 4.3L or 5.0L V8. AMG versions had a 5.4L V8. New models have a 3.5L V6 or a 6.3L V8 in the AMG) Sounds like someone stuck a badge on a regular CLK, but I guess as he found out, badges don't really add horsepower *L*.

You sure about that? I'm pretty certain you use to be able to get a CLK with the Kompressor. They had those two door hatch looking cars for awhile, and I know I raced one of those that had Kompressor on it, and I've seen a few of them around, all having Kompressor on them.

That's the C class coupe - and yes it that one did have the 4 cyl Kompressor (the 3.2 V6 was optional). CLK is a different model though - it's a larger car with a trunk, while the C coupe is a hatchback.

CLK...

C Coupe "Kompressor"..

Then it was a CLK, which also come in 'verts, but not in Kompressors - back to fake badging again . C-coupes have never been available as ragtops

That's not it. The back end was slightly bigger, in addition, it's not nearly as squared off. That's far too new of a car. It was an older model merc. It was an SLK, just not sure which SLK due to not knowing the year.

Eh, I could have taken eitehr the SLK230 or 320. Is the 230 still produced?

As for the M62, that's ok, I'm sitting on an M90. I thought I read somewhere that Mercedes uses some type of odd snout or clutch for their blowers so you can't swap pulleys and get the same results as we do.

theirs has a magnetic clutch on it, like an AC, so it can shut off.

kind of a neat idea, toyota used to do something like that on the blown MR2s.

The model pictured is the older version of the SLK - there was no previous generation to that one. It may have been the older CLK which had a more squared off front than the one I posted above. But again, it never came as a "Kompressor" model.

Re the S/C's, yes they have have a magnetic clutch setup, but pulley swaps are still a popular mod even so.

P.S. Neither the SLK230, nor the C-coupe are currently produced.
