Cool Subaru WRX vs Cobalt SS/TC

First let me state that: 1. I am not the biggest on street racing(although I do race from time to time), and 2. If you are pushing highway speeds, it's not really much of a race, IMO.

That being said, here is my story.

The cars: 2008(260HP/260TQ) Cobalt SS/TC - Bone stock (except some nifty new valve caps), 6700 miles
2008(224HP/226TQ)or 2009(265HP/244TQ) Subaru WRX - Modified with atleast a BOV, and exhaust

The conditions: Temp 68F, No wind, Interstate, Low traffic, Rolling 60

The story: I am driving home from work down the interstate, and come up behind a black WRX, I think to myself, thats kind of nice. Well the driver makes a couple quick lane changes, apparently checking to see if his suspension is still suspending properly. I follow suit. I give a few taps of the throttle, and his buddy looks back at me, "HI" I say. His friend points back, and says to friend a few words. I like to think he said "Look at that sweet ass cobalt", but chances are he said "Look, its a lame ass cobalt, and hey after we race this guy, lets make out." Whatever. Driver switches on some light/switch, the "GO FAST" button, not to be confused with "THE EASY" button, thats Staples.

NOW FOR THE SERIOUS PART

We are running 55-60MPH, and WRX is in front of me. The driver tachs up engine, and all I hear is "PSSSST" and all I see is a white plume of smoke pour out from his exhaust...he punches it. VROOM!!! Well I, naturally, kick back into 3rd gear at about the same time, and gun it (did not brake boost, just wanted to go ALL NAT-UR-ALL) by the time I hit fourth at around 85 or so, I'm beside him, and beside myself, because I am currently as giddy as a school girl. I hit 4th (I forgot I had NLS, ****** eh), and blow by him, while I am laughing, and waving to him, in the BRING IT motion. I start walkin on him, to about 2-3 cars, I hit around 115, and then brake. Once I slow back down to 65 or so, I see him hauling ass up on my right side, I let him blow by for about 2 car lengths, and then I rinse, lather, REPEAT, except this time I am 2-3 car lengths ahead again, at around 125MPH, give or take a couple MPH's.

I slow down one final time, just so he can get up beside me so I can simply ask, "what are you running." But he ducks behind me. I switch lanes, and drop to near 40, ON THE 65 MPH INTERSTATE!!! Just so I can simply ask, "WHAT ARE YOU RUNNING?" He proceeds to switch to the far right lane, and ducks off interstate in shame.

The result: I win, but it was cheapened because I have no idea if it was the 08 or 09. If it was the 09 then WTF This TC must really open up after its driven nearly 7000 miles. If it was the 08, then good race, but easy kill

Thats about it, enjoy.

PS- Yeh I know, it probably was the 08, but if you **** on my parade then you know what you are...

I didn't think the 09 wrx was on sale yet. It might be, im not sure. I would think it would be pretty close with an 09 though. Good kill either way. I think subaru and mitsubishi have ruined the "rawness" of the evo and sti. Too much crap going on now.

For the record the TC's only dyno around 240hp...so i'm thinking it was an 08 WRX.

Nice kill either way!

I've raced a pretty much stock 04-05 STi sedan from a roll around 60MPH, even off the start but instantly i'm ahead, ss/tc has ftw gearing.

Yeh I'm betting it was an 08, considering the space I put between him. But the 09 WRX basically runs right with the TC according to specs. But when you compare it on the dyno the TC actually puts out 10 more HP and 10 more ft/lbs. of torque, than the 09 wrx does, so I dont know...
