17's or 18's for winter

Here we go. 09 TC

Buy ss/na rims with 205/50/r17 or stay stock size (sorta) and get maybe used ss/sc rims with 215/45/r18.

I want 17's (205) because it'll give me better traction in the snow.
I want 18's (215) because it'll give me better traction when there is no snow on the road.

Please vote

17" ss/na's because I BELIEVE the sc 18's do not fit.

Interesting. I'm starting to feel the 17's. Get that snow traction. Anyone think I'll get traction on 205 snows when the roads are clear?

No lol. I have 215/55/16 blizzaks with only 230whp last year, and forget about traction all winter if you get on it. They do their job though in the snow, pretty impressive actually.

Damn. Winter is going to suck with not being able to use the horsey power and all. Better safe than sorry. Not going to dare run the stockers (summers.) Only an idiot would do that. I have 215/55/16 Hanook IPike's sitting at from my 2.4. They wont fit. Kinda sucks having to buy a new set.

Your best bet is to probably to go to tirerack.com and read reviews. I personally have had experience with WinterForce's and Hanook IPike and both are great.

in this case, smaller the better.... smaller wheel, bigger sidewall on tire = better grip

also with snow tires, these cars are tanks

I thought about that, but 225 is awfully wide for snow use.

I would go with the 17's for traction, but the ss/na (or ss/sc) wheels will NOT fit your ss/tc unless you buy spacers for them. Just makin sure ya know that before you buy.

Wondering about this aswell. I'll be trying it for myself next week. I'm going to try some SS 2.4 rims on my TC

17" SS 2.4 rims work on the TC without spacers. Just installed a set on my TC. About an 1/8" gap between the caliper and rims. No scrapes or rubs.
