on a 40mm? What does that mean? I assume you're talking about tires on a wheel, but the 40mm means nothing to me. What is your wheel width in inches?

Sorry the wheel is an 18x8 with the offset being the 40mm. Didn't mean to confuse anyone my bad.

they should fit, you may want to go even a bit wider though. I'm going 235 on a 7.5 in a couple weeks here. Check prices on a 240/40 vs. a 245/40. One will be cheaper depending on the popularity of the tire size...sometimes the bigger one.

..and move the comma in your sig to after the word "be"

245mm wide tire on an 8 inch rim will work fine. Just make sure the overall sidewall height is correct (is a percentage of the width, not just a number in height)

I know the 245 will work on the rim I'm more worried about rubbing issues with the fender well. But thanks for the help!

Jack I think you'll be good.
Isn't stock offset something like 42mm? I've heard people say that 38-45 is ok.

As far as the width, I know that the Grand Am racing Cobalts run 245 Hoosiers, but on 17" wheels, and I don't know the offset. I got to talk with 2 of the teams two yars ago and they didn't have any clearance problems.

With stock offset, half inch wider wheel and 30mm wider tire it seems to me you may have as much as 3/4" more beef on each side of wheel.

Unfortunately most tires aren't exactly the size they're marked and sizes vary according to manufacturer. So it seems like you'll almost have to buy and try them unless someone here has a setup close to what you want.

And obviously you may already know all this, just tryin to help.

235/40/18 is what you need to keep near stock diameter for the 18" SS wheels. Going to this size from the 215's is within 0.1 of the OEM tire. I have 235's on all 4 stock wheels and have NO rubbing issues. There are plenty of websites that will do the conversions for you.

From what I remember I thought the 235 was a tad smaller and the 245 a hair larger then stock diameter. I don't want to step down in sidewall cause the roads around here suck ass! I NEED that sidewall to protect my rims AND smooth out the ride as much as possible. The 235's are smaller aren't they?

Yeah, 245s would be a tad taller and 235s would be a tad smaller with the 40 profile

I had checked this before (with my cheap TI calculator), and doing the math:
215/45-18"= 25.618" diameter
235/40-18 = 25.402"
245/40-18 = 25.717"

The 245/40 is a tiny bit closer to stock diameter, .099 larger, while 235/40 is .216 smaller. Not a big difference either way, roughly 1/2 of 1%, nothing anyone would ever notice.

But these numbers are theoretical. The problem with just doing the math, like I said earlier, is that nobody makes a perfect tire that is exactly the size it is supposed to be in every dimension, and tires marked the same size often vary according to manufacturer.
That's why I wrote before that in the end he'll just have to buy and try em!

Just my 2 cents, your reality may differ.

Wow, that's a great chart! Where'd ya find it? Would save me from crunching numbers.

Wow, thanks Jack, my rep really jumped, I appreciate it.

Off topic but is it 100 rep points per box? If so I'm gettin pretty close.
What's with these guys here with like thousands of posts and one green box?

Finally got my account straightened out and can now give rep, I think, haven't tried it yet, but + back at ya.

Its 100 per box till you hit 5 or 6 boxes then you skip for some reason to 200 till the next box then it drops back to 100 per box then when you hit 800+ points it looks like it might skip again. Noone knows why it does what it does not even Jonel!

EXAMPLE, I'm at 871 points yet I have only 7 boxes. WHO KNOWS!
