245/40 18's on a 40mm
they should fit, you may want to go even a bit wider though. I'm going 235 on a 7.5 in a couple weeks here. Check prices on a 240/40 vs. a 245/40. One will be cheaper depending on the popularity of the tire size...sometimes the bigger one.

Cool thanks! Yeah I fould some wheels I want and now I'm looking at tires but I want a nice beefie looking set of rubber under the car hence the 245/40's
Jack I think you'll be good.
Isn't stock offset something like 42mm? I've heard people say that 38-45 is ok.
As far as the width, I know that the Grand Am racing Cobalts run 245 Hoosiers, but on 17" wheels, and I don't know the offset. I got to talk with 2 of the teams two yars ago and they didn't have any clearance problems.
With stock offset, half inch wider wheel and 30mm wider tire it seems to me you may have as much as 3/4" more beef on each side of wheel.
Unfortunately most tires aren't exactly the size they're marked and sizes vary according to manufacturer. So it seems like you'll almost have to buy and try them unless someone here has a setup close to what you want.
And obviously you may already know all this, just tryin to help.

Thanks man great info!
235/40/18 is what you need to keep near stock diameter for the 18" SS wheels. Going to this size from the 215's is within 0.1 of the OEM tire. I have 235's on all 4 stock wheels and have NO rubbing issues. There are plenty of websites that will do the conversions for you.

215/45-18"= 25.618" diameter
235/40-18 = 25.402"
245/40-18 = 25.717"
The 245/40 is a tiny bit closer to stock diameter, .099 larger, while 235/40 is .216 smaller. Not a big difference either way, roughly 1/2 of 1%, nothing anyone would ever notice.
But these numbers are theoretical. The problem with just doing the math, like I said earlier, is that nobody makes a perfect tire that is exactly the size it is supposed to be in every dimension, and tires marked the same size often vary according to manufacturer.
That's why I wrote before that in the end he'll just have to buy and try em!
Just my 2 cents, your reality may differ.
Wow, that's a great chart! Where'd ya find it? Would save me from crunching numbers.

Off topic but is it 100 rep points per box? If so I'm gettin pretty close.
What's with these guys here with like thousands of posts and one green box?
Finally got my account straightened out and can now give rep, I think, haven't tried it yet, but + back at ya.
Wow, thanks Jack, my rep really jumped, I appreciate it.
