6700 Miles and BALD fronts again! Opinions please.
I've been through two sets of fronts now and am working on burning my third set of two fronts as we speak. My Touring Continentals are TOTAL CRAP!
That's 6 total tires (in sets of two) that are completely bald after only 6700 miles on my car. The Chevy dealer says - nay - SCREAMS that there is nothing wrong with my car at all. They have been telling me to stop "spinning my tires" but I've done nothing of the sort.
I only drive my car about 70 miles per week. 3 nights a week, for maybe an hour or two each night (20-ish miles per night). I do a newspaper delivery route and so there are probably 350 corners in my small little 20-30 mile stretch of houses to throw to. Yeah I take the corners a little spiritedly, but it's still pretty ridiculous. I have been surfing the net for a week now trying to find the absolute best "treadwear" on a tire I could find. I found a set of tires called "Michelin HydroEdge" with a UTQG rating of 800 on treadwear.
Is 800 the best you can get? Are these tires worth the $106 per? Will they help fix my bald front problem?
I thought about getting drift tires, but those will just be fun and burn out quickly not really solve my problem.
Opinions please! Thanks.

Go by posted pressure on your door frame, not the max pressure listed on the tire. 2 reasons: 1. Help your tires last longer. 2. When inflated to max pressure, if your tires expand due to heating (driving), you are increasing the chance of a blow out severely.
Honestly, since most of the tires for the ss/sc version are low treadwear, I rotate every 3000 miles or so, and I went and got mine nitrofilled. Trying to avoid having to get another set in less that 16k miles.

Wow, I've never seen a tire with 800 rating before...Check out tirerack.com for a set of Yokohomas...I forget what the name of them are, but the are like 760 or something like that with an 80,000 mile warranty...I'd stay away from the Michlien's. They are overpriced crap.
I don't think better tires are going to solve your wear problem.
How much weight are you carrying and where in the car ? (during your paper run).
Either way you may want to slow down on your corners. If you are wearing out tires that fast, you are most likely wearing out the driveline faster than normal also.
Good luck
Steve.

All of the weight is in the back of the car. Generally the truck/backseat area. I don't check my tire pressure very often but with only 6700 miles total on my car not very often is relatively often since I haven't put many miles on it anyways.
They always wear on the sidewalls first (like I'm cornering too hard) then the middle starts to wear, then the whole thing is bald, then the steel belts show.
Does anyone else have an opinion on what tire I should upgrade to? Do you guys all think Michelins are overpriced crap?
An 800 treadwear rating sounds pretty impressive to me. That's why I'm interested in them.

go to an independant shop and have them do an alignment check, alot of places will do it for free and give you a print out.. if your alignment is off bring it back to the dealer and show them something is wrong with your car..
personally i love doing alignments at work, but i know alot and i mean alot of techs that hate them so much that they just drive the car, if it drives straight it doesn't need an alignment, which is BS sometimes

I had a 300gt vr-4 a few years ago that would go through a set of front tires every 3 months and it turns out for some reason the toe was horribly off and I couldn't even tell while I was driving it. Take it to a tire place, don't take it to the dealer, if you have to pay for it I'm sure you won't mind too much to save having to keep on buying tires
.
Make sure you tell them specifically to check the toe. You haven't done any suspension work to it have you?
