i have about 12k on mine and i hate them, will be getting rid of them soon, they suck in all weather conditions except dry hot days, and i have a stock SC and if i get on it they spin through into 3rd so....... have fun

ya really. I can not spin them in third and I have nearly 400 wtrq. Also did you get the DW or DWS Model. the DWS are all seasons, the DW are the ones I have here. People get confused when I put DW's to mean plural and think I mean the all seasons.

Also, the video's dont lie haha.

would a 235/35zr18 fit the rim and clear? Should equal the same sidewall height of the origianl I would assume.

yup.

IMHO I wouldn't lean towards a 235/35 - just becasue the overall diameter is about 6/10th's of an inch shorter...

I would stick to 225/40, or 225/45 or 235/40... but it's all about hte deal...

@OP thanks for making this thread - this is great info you're sharing ~ the DW's were on my (very) short list of tires I was contemplating on buying - but I literally fell into two nearly new pairs (8~9/32's) of Continental ContiSportContact's @ 225/45/18 for $360 (for all four)...
These are OE BMW tires... unfortunately they have the same crappy tread rating as the stock ContiSportContact 2's...

Probably should start my savings for a set of the DW's

Ya it should fit, i am running 235/40/18s, every now and than my backs scrap when I hit a DIP, not a bump, but i suspect a little wear on the tires and that well stop, or just roll the fenders and you should be good.

And I got 20k miles out of my stock tires, and these have a higher tread rating, which is actually comparable since its from the same manufacturer, also I remember how much better the contisports rode compared to tires I had on afterwards.

No problem, I had this issue when I was going to buy tires, and the only suggestion with any kind of feedback were NT05's but they just arent practical for what I need out of the car on a daily basis. I needed good grip/handling, decent treadwear, and since I do 2-3 trips of 300 miles a month, good rain traction on the highway. Not a lot of tires offered that, and so far I am pleased with the tires, and I'll be the first one to bitch about them haha.

I just ordered 2 from Discount - they are not stock, though , so 3 - 5 bidness days.

My fronts are at the wear bar coming up on 21K, and I bet I can get another 6K or so out of the backs, so I am gonna be a mis-matched tire kind of guy until the rears KO.

Hmmm - kind of like on the Camaro !

Of course,t he plus to this is that if they mount the tires to the same wheels I won't have to fool w/ the TPMS nonsense - well, until a rotation.


Dam things have gone up 15 bux or so since I first started looking (at this thread ) - GRRRRRRRRR !

Yes, I am cheap.

i got the dws ones, loving them. overall id rate them a 7-8 dry, and by far the best in rain so far. no snow yet. but they take corners like i wouldn't believe, and they don't howl in pain around those corners either. straight line, not too shabby.

hey 15 bux a pop is a lot when you consider your buying in sets (60 more dollars!!!)

Also, I dont know if you have ever redid your TPMS sensors after a rotation (if you go to a dealer when you get them rotated they do it for you) but its super easy, and detailed how to do in the owners manual. You basically go into a mode, and let air out of whatever tire the car honks for until it sees you changed stuff. Do it all around the car, than fill em back up and your done!

I will keep an eye on your thread, I just finally put the nitto nt5's on my car and have 75 miles on them. have made two pulls with no spin so i am happy..

The stock conti's would break loose with ease in 2nd gear very annoying..

I have not even put 1000 miles on my car this year yet... kind of bummed have been to busy to get out..

Will get to use it this weekend, going to the firemans convention on sat.

be careful!

there are several Continental tires that are not offered in north america ~ or the USA!

That link appears to be for the German market ~ as I might deduce from the ".de" in the url...

I want ot get a pair of tires to mach two I already have, and since they're not offered to the USA market, I can't get them from Tire Rack;

Lemme know how those NT05's are in the rain I have heard they are ok, but on a pretty regular / anticipated basis I have to drive 4-500 miles in a 2 or 3 day span, and if its raining thatll make the trip a lot longer and dangerous! (without good wet tires!)

I actualy was caught in the rain yesterday with them, everything was good i was running 70+ no hydroplaning.

So I've been watching this thread since it started and I'm pretty much decided on these tires now. What made you go with the 91Y? The 95Y's have an XL Load Range. Wouldn't that mean it's stiffer, and wouldn't a stiffer tire result in better handling? I can see how a probably softer sidewall would result in a smoother ride and possibly more straight line grip. I'd be more interested in handling since I'm still at stock power and probably will be for a while. Any thoughts?

Too bad those are only listed in some big 19" sizes.
they were cheaper at the time.

they handle fine in hard cornering, I dont really feel like they are soft, just keep them inflated right. If your buying this tire you want compromise of grip/handling and ride comfort. Which means these tires arent going to see a ton of track time (although they could), so why wouldnt you want a little bit more comfort for your 95% of daily driving when your not ripping it?

just my 2 cents.


as far as the rain, I worry about downpours that leave huge puddles here in the mountains and valleys, thats where more of the hydroplanning accidents happen on these highways when there is slight elevetation changes that creates issues, not regular rain and driving. To each their own, I don't need the car to be on full kill 100% of the time.

I have these on my HHR SS for just over 1200 miles now ad I love them. Compared to the stock Michelins we with HHR's get, these are leaps and bounds better. Excellent traction and they've been terrific on soaking wet roads. Example: I drove from NJ to my place in CT basically trying to stay in front of Hurricane Irene. We were caught the entire way in rainfall that went from light to heavy at times. Never ONCE did my car hydroplane even while driving through a few inches of standing water. My stock tires would have had me hydroplaning or best case fighting the tug on the steering wheel.

National Back Order on these = 6 month wait, maybe ? !!

I think I may get some Falken ZE-512's as a "placeholder" as Discount says they will pro-rate the wear if I wanna trade 'em in when the DW's come in.

Sigh

On the up side , the Falkens are relatively cheap.

that actually sounds like a good deal though. I think they are worth the wait if your not looking for track like tire

What size were you looking at? As of maybe two weeks ago now, my local tire distributor had the 235/40R18 size available. Tirerack has them available now. The 225/40R18 size...yeah, good luck with that.

That would have been a good thought, but ...

I wound up w/ a set of Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's. They had a $ 100.00 rebate on 4, and I got $ 20.00 each trade in on my 2 rear Conti's/ ( 5/32 tread - not bad for 21,4XX miles .)

The PS2's seem to have pretty good grip so far, and the tread pattern is similar to the Sport Contact 2's.

I'd say the Contis handled better, though, as the Michelins seem a little softer.

The Michelins looked like they would have a good rim protector, but they do not.

I will be careful. I figured if these were good enough for a CTS-V (556 HP ) they ought to work w/ my 280 (estimated ) STG 1 HP.

And, I know they sure handle fine on a CTS-V !!

These tires sure are smooth at 100 MPH.
