Best tires?
What are some of the best tires out there for our cobalt ss/sc that can fit the stock rim WITH NO RUBBING? I'm thinking 225/45/18 will be the best way to go. Similar in diameter to the stock, a little taller, a little wider (which is good)... Should fit the stock 7.0 inch rims fine as well. (correct me if I'm wrong) So of the 225/45/18s available what are the best? Maybe the BFG G-forces? Bridgestone potenzas? I'm open to all opinions here, just back it up with some info, thanks.

Go with 225/40-18. Tires are a) MUCH cheaper and b) you have an absoultely awesome selection to choose from. To me it's worth the $50 to get the new size flashed on the computer.

Someone on here fit 235/40 R18's on the stock rim and those are recommended for a 8"-9.5" wheel. I think Goodyear Eagle F1's.
When the time comes, I want to see how the BFGoodrich G-Force KDW 2's fit in 235/40 R18 since they are less than 1% Speedo differance.

my major concern is trying to get something a little wider (more rubber on the ground) and some more of a selection than the OE 215/45/18s. but I want it to fit on the stock rim no problem and i dont want to have to do ANY modding, fabbing, screwing, heating, NOTHING, to prevent rubbing or anything like that...

They will both fit on the same width rim.
Im running 225/45R18 Falken Azenis RT-615.
They are great. Traction is awesome.. way better then the stock pirellis.
Ride smooth as glass. No road noise.
To top it off they are only about $140/ea.
Oh ya... NO MODIFICATION REQUIRED..
I think if you go to a 45 profile tire with the wider width you might
be in danger of rubbing.
Other tires out there to look for are
Mich Pilot PS2
Toyo T1-R
Goodyear Eagle F1
BFG G-Force KDW 2

ya I threw the 235/40/18 on the stock rims.....I havent had any rubbing and the steering wheel can still go lock to lock. Plus the F1's look awesome with the V tread design.

So what is the problem with the Pirelli's we have?, I find it hard to believe that you could find a tire that would perform much better then the ones fitted to our cars stock. If they are good enough for Ferrari, and Lamborghini then you would think they should be good enough for a Chev. I can't see how Nitto's or Falken's could have any better grip AND have better tread wear. How much wider can you really get staying on the stock rims?, what maybe a quarter inch if you are lucky, and is that extra quarter inch even going to touch the ground? Or are these all the same people that ask if it is ok to put 87 octane in their cars?
