BFgoodrich KDW-2 sizing...

Ok Im going to buy the BFgoodrich KDW-2's for my ss/sc on stock wheels. I did a little searching a came up with a couple sizes that people are running since BFgoodrich doesn't make 215/45 18's for us. I have seen 225/45 and 235/40 and some in between. What is the best way to go, and if you have these what size are you running and why did you choose it? I want them to be 45s or lower (the more low profile, the better so I am not trying to go over 45). If you guys have close up pics or any pics at all of your KDW-2's on your car please post them up I'm really trying to make a decision and I have been taking to much time and I just need these b/c my pirellis are clearly balled after 15000 miles ha
Thanks in advance for any advice

Me and YELLERCOLT have KDWs sized 215/40/18 on 18x7.5 wheels. they are plenty wide enough, and have some of the best ride quality of any tire ive had yet. They are also awesome on wet roads.

yeah you could go 225 width on a 7 inch wide rim. but thats as wide as you could safely go.

now would it look like it "barely" fits though w/ 225's? I see tires all the time on rims that look like they should be on a thinner wheel and imo it looks cheap...

im pretty sure our cars have 7.5 inch wide wheels. you could run up to 235's, but they rub a little. 225's are the best ofr stock wheels.

Go with the 225/40's.

i got em, and i've only once got them to squeel thus far, lines perfectly up with rim wall.

lets just say you'll be HAPPY

IMO the 215/40's looked kinda thick on the stock SS/SC wheels...YELLERCOLT had them on his for a bit before he got his new wheels...i know someone on here has to have pics of them on stock wheels...

Remember that for sidewall height, not all 40 series tires will be the same. The sidewall ratio is the percentage of your tire width.......for example on a 225/40R18 tire, the sidewall is 40% of 225mm. That's why a 245/40R18 will actually have a taller sidewall than a 215/45R18. I hope that made sense to you because it's good info to know.

Sweet, thats what I want- the rim and tire to line up perfect. How does the sidewall thickness compare to the stock pirellis?

Thanks, that is great info to know, def did not know that. Guess you learn something everyday. Now would you think the 225/40's would look similar (sidewall height) to the stock pirelli's?

They're a little bit shorter than the stock 215/45's actually. 25.1" compared to 25.6" I believe. For what it's worth, the new SS/TC cars run 225/40R18 stock, so it's definitely a good size. I run that size on my G5 GT.

On a 7.5" wide wheel, a 225 is perfect.

i think he wants to go wider those are only .4 of an in wider the 235 is .8 almost a full in wider and wont make the speedometer off by as much...

even after those tires are almost an in wider i'll still blow em off from a roll in first gear i wish 245 would of fit but then your getting into a heavy tire also... let alone axel and wheel hop issues...but for handling wow it was like night and day...

hungryhip-ccp, thanks man you make a great point.... BUT will having the 235's be too wide for the stockers? .8 of an inch wider just seems too much, but then again what do i know lol and i like the fact that w/ the 235's it doesnt nearly affect the speedo as much... geeze with the 225's it says ill be going 63 when my speedo is reading 65 lol i know its not much but still...

for some reason im still feelin the 225's just bc they arent as wide as the 235s and i feel they are a "better" match for the stockers...

I ran them on Sportlines, and was fine for 20K miles. Awesome tires, go for the 235/40, they look great on the car and work extremely well.
