Has anyone tried the Hankook IPike winter tires

I was quoted these at the dealer.

215 55 r16's on steel rims 225 X 4 =$900.00 + tax 14%=$1026.00

I searched them out on a can site car modifier and there price is $980.00 shipped

Any one have an opinion on this tire ?

I got them through a friend of mine who works at a dealership. They are really good tires....unidirectional and seem to have great traction. Only downside is they are really loud. I paid 590 through the dealer with employee discount, so find a friend that works at a dealer and try to get a hook up. I also went with 205/60 16s. I think they are cheaper than the 215s. I would definitely recommend the tires.

Ive got the 2007 winter rim on,there spoked !

I went with the steel rims listed for the 2007 Cobalt SS (part #9595389 at the dealer) .The were a little more but dont look half bad On my yellow car .They are spoked unlike the regular steelie.
Mounted the hankook Ipikes 215/55-16" .All that side wall sure makes for a mushie feeling driving experience.
Havent driven them in the snow yet ,but they are not any noisier than the stock summer tires.

I notice that most people recommend getting 16's for winter tires but Hankook makes the Winter radial Icebear in a 225(or 235)/40/18. Would that work just as well for winter or does everyone not recommend that?

I can get them for $135 a tire so that puts me out the door around $540.

I think the 16s is a compromise for price of tires and winter rims.
Are you planning on using your stock rims.Because if you are the price for re and re ing your tires off and on will almost equal the price of a cheap set of steelies.
I never priced 18s but I would thinkthey would be over 100 a peice were you can gwt 16s
for around 70 can

Well luckily where I get my tires my dad buys all his tires from (a small dealer, so usually 12 tires/wheels a week). Apparently they will remount the tires on/off whenever I need so twice a year basically.

And yes to the original wheels obviously. I can see the price difference but then I have to find storage space for 4 wheels/tires all the time which we don't have. Tires would be roughly half as much but then you gotta find the wheels as well so it's gonna be the same if I go with 18's or 16's.
