lug nut spun out...ideas on getting it off?

so the cheap ass lugs i bought from a aftermarket company seemed ok when i got them but after putting them on and then trying to take them off to do some work on the car the damn lugs spun out in the middle. it takes a key like most aftermarket lugs do, the key hole is whats spun out. i took the car to firestone and they had 0 luck getting it off. i really need to get these ***** off because i need to adjust my rear springs. plus i want to take them all off and never use them again. a friend on this site told me about a GM tool that tapers and you use a sledge hammer to pound it into the lug and then it will come off. i havent been able to find such a tool in any parts department so im lost on what to do next. anyone know of this tool or a way to get these damn lugs off. of course i have a pic. thanks for your time css.

Yikes, what brand are they? I bought some random ass ones off of amazon and they've been nothing but great to me haha, I was thinking of upgrading to the ones that stick out like yours but I'd like ones that dont do that.

And I hope to god that it happened by an air gun not hand

Ok this is guna suck to fix but you might need to drill out the lug in order to get that off then you have to take out the hub and put a new lug in, and then you will go buy quality lug nuts

first tighten the hell out of the other 4 lugs to take as much pressure off of the stripped lug as possible.

then it looks to be a hex key, take the key to the store and get one size bigger, pound it into the lug nut and pray!

Try a bigger socket that will go over it but made for rounded out lugs. Or an eze out

I seen this happen to a jeep, ended up torching it off. Did some damage to the rim to. sorry for being negative. But Idk how else your gonna get that off.

Another thing you could try is weld another lug nut to that one and try getting it off that way, I cant see a socket fitting over top of that one without touching the rim.

Factory lugs man factory lugs, those there are pertty awful design, but tell you so's isnt going to help you....

grab yourself a chisel and try to find a biting spot and hammer in the direction to loosen(clockwise)

or spend some money on these http://www.amazon.com/HeliCoil-80401.../dp/B000Z9B7IU

just dont use a drill, use a 1/2 wrench with some leverage aka cheater bar.

Get a torx bit big enough to hammer it in, and it should come out no problem.

those wheels require tuner lugs, no getting away from that, but thats what you dont use aluminum lugs. i had a set of motegis on a past car and i had to use the same style nut, i made sure they were steel.

best way to get it off would be grab some allen head and torx sockets and try hammering them in and use a breaker bar (not an air impact) to losoen them. failing that, might have to drill the stud out and replace it. the wheel lock removers wont work, A) the nuts too small for them, B) there is no room between the nut and wheel. if the ideas here dont work, i think your only option would be to sacrafice the wheel.

your gonna have to air chisel them off. mine did the same thing but i had toyota locking nuts. same concept. just have to cut a grove for the punch to sit in and go at a angle to back the nut off. its a bitch but itl do it.

also harbor freight has a thing that goes inside the nut to back it out. looks like a reversed drill bit/cone style grinder combination thing(best i can describe it). there are two kinds, one that goes inside and one that goes outside. either way good luck man, it took me about 5 hours to get my 4 lugs off. my key was what fucked up. and hard headed me, i fucked up the locks trying to use the key at the house.

I don't know if those will be able to bite hard enough to get a lug nut off. It's worth a try though for what they cost.

You're only other option that I can think of, is to drill it out and get a new stud pressed in. If you try to drill it, put the biggest socket over the lug that will fit and then put the drill bit in through the hole in the back of the socket. This will prevent the drill bit from slipping and damaging the wheel.

If the pipe nipple extractors don't work maybe try to get behind the hub and grind the head of the stud off and the punch it through?

Guys, Ive seen this before. Here is what you need to do. Just follow this guys instructions, and youll have that rim off in no time!

So, Dont buy a VW - Honda-Tech

*Future note, dont buy cheap ass lugnuts, especially that style, when or if you get it off, buy some mcgard spline drive lugs.

def should try a easy out or that screw extractor set.... did u not put never seize on your lugs? i think its a must when you have aluminum lugs and steel studs

You pretty much got it... well, part of it.

Buy (or use) a hex socket one size over the original OR switch from a metric to standard (or s-m) sometimes works out to 1/2 size over.

Heat the lug nut nut up from the center to a mild orange.

Hammer the oversized hex socket into the stripped lug before it cools.
And i mean seriously hammer it in, not just half way.

Breaker bar, very slowly (dont jerk the bar) remove the lug, works best if still a dull orange.

worked many times.

if it doesnt extract the nut, you will probably twist off the stud which is just as good. You will have to replace it either way.

Lug nuts should be dry. neverseize prevents proper torque. Ive seen people use bearing grease, thats just rediculous!

Thats pretty much impossible.
