Pictures of 17" Ion Redline wheels over Brembos

I bought myself a set of Saturn Ion Redline 17" wheels from a fellow forum member lastnight, I threw one on to see how it would fit. I was able to snug down every lug nut without the rim pressing itself in to the caliper. The wheels even spun freely without rubbing the caliper. I would estimate there to be about 2mm of clearance here, VERY close fit. I will probably buy a pair of 3mm spacers before I mount them for winter. I just wanted to spread the word, for any of you who may have been curious about this. They seem to look nice with the car too, not ricey at all! By the way please excuse the pictures, my car was filthy during this shoot. I immediately washed the wheels and car just after I was done trying on wheels haha.

Shot of the other side of the car, showing how the OEM SS/TC wheels clear the calipers. Big difference!

haha sorry! lol... I should downsize them, but I thought that this way people could see the detail better... ah I dunno maybe I will let this go and see if people have any problems with the images opening quickly or not and if so I can shrink them more.

might be common knowledge for some, but I thought I would just put this out there as a quick refresher for those who still wanted to know. I was trying to focus more the caliper clearance.

I have been in touch with Enkei recently. I talked with a rep named King. He told me there is a new wheel coming out around the end of Sept. and they haven't fully decided if they're going to include our 5X110. He told me if there was enough interest they would build this wheel. It is a race wheel weighing LESS than 16# and priced about the same as the RPF1. Everybody interested in wheels should call this number, ask for King and tell him you want wheels for your Cobalt SS. He also told me the new wheel is being built to clear Brembos and probably in a 17" as well. EVERYBODY GET ON THE PHONE AND TELL YOUR FRIENDS, RELATIVES AND EVEN ENEMIES TO CALL. The more interest we can generate the better our chances. This is a NEW wheel so tooling won't be as big a factor as custom wheels, which they don't want to get involved with. 800-875-3100 CALL

I have the IRL 17' for winter & I am amazed they managed to clear the calipers on your car.
I put them on after 3 weeks of owning the car as the law here forced us to put winter tires before nov 15.
I had to put spacers. They were definitely rubbing against the caliper.

I see everyone discussing spacers for the 17" rims. I have a set of 17" for winter use that will need ~3mm spacers. Which type of spacers have people been using? I have no experience using spacers and have been trying to read up a bit but am still a bit confused.

I chose to buy a special set of billet spacers, with an exact fit 65.1mm center bore to fit my cobalt. They have 5x110 pre drilled holes. I chose these more expensive ones because I was afraid the cheaper ones would not have as good a level of flatness on them. I bought these:
