Poor white trash and buying tires. What to get?

20k miles on my car and GM is saying I need new front tires. I don't really want to go with pirellis again because they don't seem to last very long.

Anyone ever used Toyo Proxes? I really would like to stay under 150-175 per tire.

Look for a tire with a high treadwear rating. The only thing is that you cannot compare treadwear ratings from different companies because they are rated differently

I would go with the Kumho Ecsta AST's. Their all-season and only $78 each on tirerack.com

I looked at those but i've heard horror stories about the sidewalls on those tires. I've been told they don't hold up.

Can anyone confirm?

VERY TRUE!!! Each tire company rates thier own tires and the results are distorted. I bet those pzero's are rated much higher on mileage that what people are actually getting.

im using the toyo proxes 4, and i love them. great traction on wet roads, great treadwear, and a unique tread pattern that seems to reduce hydroplaning a lot. during the summer they proved to have excellent traction on dry pavement, i would definitely recommend them

Hankook has a pretty good 40 something series tire. I used them on my limited edition 2000 Nismo altima I ahd before this car. Never had a car that would hook better at the track. You just dont hear much about them in the racing world. I think I payed 280 or 380 for all 4 tires. But I hear Nitto neogen is the way to go.

Nitto's 555 would be my choice if you don't go back with the pzero's. Should be around 150 a tire

Try BFG KDW's. They have a 300 tredwear rating and give excellent grip. Those are in or below your price range too.

I would go with a 225/40, but that is just my opinion.

I read somewhere that the pzero nero's were good, they tested them on a miata, which is lighter than our cars. Did pretty good too.

They will, but the difference is less than 2%. However, if you have access to HPTuners, I believe you adjust the tire size in the computer, so there would be no difference at all.

The difference in size will barely effect your speedo. It's recommended to keep tires within 3% of the OE tire size for accurate readings. Also check out the Toyo T1R's. max performance tire with a 280 treadwear rating, and they are actually like 2-3 lbs lighter than the BFG's!

The T1Rs are what I was looking at. I've seen them online for like $145ish or something.

Will 225/40s fit on the factory rim? Will the tires rub when I turn?

how much bigger of a tire can fit on the rim? like my sunfire they where 195/60/15 and i just got the Fuzion HRi tire put on and they went with a bigger tire so now its got a 205/60/15. and i like how its a wider looking tire. so for the G5 there 205 also whats the biggest number i can go up to that wont hurt the ride of the car.
