Reflash/speedo calibration question

hey guys i was wondering if anyone could help me out - i just had the speedo calibration done for my new 17" wheels, and it really doesn't seem like anything changed... I saw the reflash thread from way back in october but it didn't help much. Basically, i was just wondering if anyone whose had it done noticed any difference.

When I had the stock 15's on at 1500 in 5th, i was always going ~40mph, and it was the same after I put on the 17's - then after i pick up the car from the dealership, i'm still going ~40 at 1500rpm. I know I could be wrong but it doesn't seem to make much sense to me. Any ideas? I understand how wheel/tire size would make a difference but I didn't see any at all.

Also, is the reflash for the top speed limiter something you gotta ask for or would they do it just when 'adjusting' for new tires (my new ones are W speed rated)? Unfortunately its all rainy here and supposed to snow so i won't get a chance to see for myself for a while. If it turns out nothing changed at all im going back to the dealership to get my $80 back.

Sorry if any of this was covered somewhere, i searched around but couldn't find much

Thanks

There is nothing wrong. You aren't going to see any major different at all unless your overall tire diameter is grossly different then before. It should be about the same in fact.

I don't believe the base model car program can have the speed limiter removed by a Tech 2. If the ECM ever gets supported, you could remove it aftermarket, but not yet.

Damn, thats a shame. thanks for the reply though man. that really sucks, its just not a good feeling that my '98 taurus that took 10.5 seconds to get to 60 has a higher top speed than my cobalt

I'm switching out my stock 17"s for some 18" Enkei WDMs whenever FedEx delivers them. Should I recalibrate my speedo? I never did when I switched from 15"s to 17"s back when I had my 2nd gen RX-7, and never once got a speeding ticket in that.

If your overall tire diameter has changed significantly, then a speedo calibration is a good idea. There are a lot of wheel size calculators on line that allow you compare. Most of the time you will find that a particular change only results in 2% error.

Yeah halfcent you were right. Not that it was unexpected, but i took it out on the highway today and when it hit 105 the limiter kicked in. Man that sucks. Idk anything about tuning but you can bet Ill learn once they support the 2.2. just thought i'd wrap that up.
