Treadwear ratings do not directly effect "traction"
Its the average wear in a % over a "standard test tire" that is sold by the NHTSA. Because its is not regulated, unfortunately you cannot use the tread wear rating for much tbh. It really has no bearing on anything....any tire manufacture could have 2 lines, of the exact same tire (sold under different brand) and rate the tire with a lower or higher grade.
Traction comes from tread compound (natural rubbers vs syntheic rubbers..the naturals will wear much faster and do provide more gripe), design features (how much touches the ground, and sipes in tread).
I run the RE760's and couldnt be happier. They have better road manners then stock, and for the limited track use I do (only went to the course twice in a year) they perform just fine. Then add the fact I work for as a technical rep for Bridgestone, I picked them up extremely cheap

350 for all (4) mounted/balanced/aligned>170 each
And seriously being as I MENTIONED I rarely take my car out on the track (more then most on here which have never been, and less then some that are completely serious about it) I see no reason to spend the extra for a more aggressive tire that will wear faster, and does have less "road" manners in daily driving due to design of tread pattern. The RE-11 is a great track tire, but it should on average wear out 2 times faster then the RE760...I really do not need the little extra performance it provides over the Re760's, which are one of the best tires you can purchase at its price point. Some feel the need to top everything, I look for what makes the best sense, and know that my setup works great, better then most

There is a good and easy way to control wheel spin.... Use less throttle... My car can destroy its tires in 2nd and 3rd gear if I push it to do so..
I have almost 11k miles on mine and still have 6/10ths tread left on all 4 tires...
Quit spinning them all the time and you can get some life out of them.

To the crash kid - GET SOME SNOW TIRES. Stock Continentals DO infact turn in to hockey pucks in the snow, I have learned this in personal experience. I now have Dunlop Wintersport M3s on all four corners, huge difference!

I don't know where you people live or how you were taught to drive, but I have to laugh at all of the people flipping out about driving on these in winter. I drove on them all of LAST winter too, with no problems. Sure I have to go slower and be more careful, but I can still get around. I drove to work and back during our first big storm this winter... 8" of wet heavy snow, front lip was plowing the road, since the trucks hadn't been out yet... No problems.
Maybe I can attribute my attitude and skill to my first car. I had a '79 Toyota Celica GT, 5spd, and by the first winter the tires were so worn they looked like slicks. I drove it every day in a ski resort town that gets more snow than most places in new England.
Would I PREFER snow tires? Hell yes! Can I afford them and still have food in my fridge? No fricken way.

Has anyone tried the ContiExtremeContact DW tires? I been reading reviews on The Tire Rack and Discount tire but would like to hear from someone who has them on their balt. I have been thinking putting them or maybe even the ContiExtremeContact DWS(All Season) on.
