Tire rub. More like tire shave.

After reading this thread http://www.seecarclub.net...um/index.php?topic=2450.0 I decided to go 225/45/18 on my stock rims. Lowered with Sportlines. As soon as i put 3 people in my car the rear tires started rubbing bad. I'm so sad because the overall ride was so much better. But now one of my tires has actually been shaved by the wheel well or should i say fender. It rubbed the paint off. I bought the tire insurance. SO they should replace em with something the fits, right? They didn't warn me about fitment. so they should cover to have my wells repainted.

From what I can read, your sportlines are causing this. I assume they are too soft and when you put fat women in your car it rubs.

So get stiffer springs and a skinnier gf.

LOL omg. That's funny. My g/f only weight 120. Two of my best friends were riding with me to play wallyball. We each weigh about 220 or 225lbs. So the extra 450lbs was enough to squat the car over any big bump. Do you really think a different set of springs will fix. this. SOrry for not having pictures. This all happened last night and i was exhausted now I'm at work. will load pics when i get home aroung 7. I'm gonna run the the store and pick up some gear lube before i get home. Do you know what to use.

Well an SS/TC rides on something like 235/40/18s.

Now I also know that Sportlines are a much softer spring. So not only are you lower but the springs compresses more with more weight. So it creates two issues in one.

May need to go with a lower profile tire

I have to go with a lower pro tire. I had 225/40/18's on before. they fit just fine. I was trying to find a happy medium with ride and handling. I'm either going to have to further upgrade my rear springs or go back to stock. I love the way my car handle. So I think I'll stick with a lower profile tire untill i can buy some coil overs. My concern now is that discount pays to have my fender touched up. It wouldn't be a lot of work but i want it done professionaly.

I am 99% sure your tire insurance will not cover your tires due to your "non factory" suspension parts, read the fine print. Some members here even uses 245 for trackdays with no rub.

You know you are basically asking the tire warranty to cover your after market spring's lack of ability to support load because you've installed a non oem suspension component that is designed to decrease suspension travel, right?

225/45's are too tall if you are lowered. They are .3" taller than the stock 215/45/18's. You should have went with 215/45's again or 225/40's.

You can also fit 235/40/18 that is about the same height as the 215/45/18's as well.

Some people have rubbing issues with 235/40/18's due to the extra width. Stick with 225/40/18's to be safe. Especially if you have people in your back seat regularly.

I'm on sportlines with 225/45/18's nitto 555's on both my ss/sc stock rims and Konig rims. I have had two 350 pound men in my car and me (210 pounds) and my girl and although my car looked slammed! lol I got no rub...

I only rub slightly in the front when I make a really sharp u-turn at speed (10-15 mph).

I like the look of 225/40's better but at the time I wanted a really nice ride and the 225/45's are nice, even on sportlines.

I will go with a 235/40/18 next time though.
