Here is a quick little explanation on tire sizing to clear some of this up..
Say 225/40/18 for example..
225 is the is the measurement of the tread width (sidewall to sidewall) in millimeters. The 40 is 40% of the tread width. And 18 is the rim size obviously..
Therefore when you widen the tread width, you need to drop the sidewall percentage.
Examples: 205/50/18 & 215/45/18 & 225/40/18 will all stand roughly the same height. Only the tread width will be affected.
Does this make sense?

i got a 225/40/18 on my car and i like it. plus there are way more tire options for that size
