Tire Size Problems

Have any of you that have 225 40 18 or different size tires have any problems with abs or any types of lights turn on because of the size difference, and also do you know if we can calibrate our computers to change tire size for the speedos?

The car has had 225/40/18's on it for the whole 6 months I have had it. No problems to report that I would attribute to the tires.

With the 225/40's I was going slower than indicated and my miles are lower than indicated. I have HPTuners and was able to adjust out the difference...

not sure, the dealer should have other methods, maybe EFI Live can do it also. I had to input the front tire diameter in inches.

I bought HPT because I wanted to go with a smaller pulley and new exhaust system, meth kit. The speedo cal was a bonus.

OP what trim do you have? If you have 2.2 have the dealership fash your car for the 16" tires and it'll be almost perfect, but close without the flash.

If your tires are all the same size, there should be no issues with abs lights, etc, but your speedo will be slightly off. 225/40 is a little smaller diameter than stock, and as such, your tires have to rotate more to cover the same distance. This is more potential wear on your engine, and more miles on your odometer than the actual distance you've traveled.

Of course it's all relative, though. The difference in diameter is only 2%. Basically, for every 100 miles you travel, your odometer will count 102.

i ve ran 225/40/18 all year and no issue, just put on 225/45/18 for winter tires and they rub a little if you are turning and hit a bump.

Yes, I have now 225/40, but that's what comes on the 08+ SS cars. On my '06, I replaced the stock 215/45 with a 225/45, as that's closer to stock size than a 225/40. (~0.7% bigger vs. ~ 2.0% smaller) Again, neither will significanly affect your car - it's really just personal preference. And the fact that, at the time, the 225/45 size was about 40 bucks cheaper per tire.

Not at all - I also had not lowered my car or anything. If you're lowered, you're more likely to rub.

I've had 225/40/18s on my car for over a year, no problems. Although, I went to discount tire to get two new ones (oops rotation much?) and they put on 255/40/18s... Looks pretty damn funny.
I gotta wait till next week before I can get the correct size. they put the big'ns on the back because they rubbed up front

But dang, if I am getting an extra 2mi ever 100 miles on the odo, I can see how that would add up quick, I didnt realize it was that different. My speedo isn't off by much either, i read pretty close to what the radar speed limit signs say
