tire size question
im sorry if this is a repost i looked and didnt see anything i am looking at getting a set of nittos but the only size that fits the stock rims is 235/40zr discount tire says that theyll fit has anyone used this size yet and what were the results

I was told that anything over 225's will rub but thats only what i was told i don't know that i beleive i sure would like to know for sure i want 235 or wider if posible!

This might not quite be on topic, but rather than start a new thread....
I'm driving on the stock SS/SC rims and I need summer tires. 45/215 is the stock size of the tires I believe.
My question is, can I put 225 wide tires on a 215 rim? Or do you have to match the tire width exactly with the rim??

I understand that it's feasible to put larger than 215 wide tires on a 215 rim. But what are the implications? Are they more likely to malfunction under extreme cornering? If so, will I get flack when i try to warrenty them becausee the rim size didn't match the tire size?
I've been told that some companies won't mount tires unless they match the rim size. There's gotta be a reason for it.

The malfunction, is that the tire actually bows out a little more than it is supposed to. You can add a couple of psi to straighten out the sidewall a little bit, but the overall setup isn't recommended if you can get the correct size rims. The problem occurs when you corner extremely hard, under very rare circumstances, the tire will bend so far on the rim, that it will pop off the bead. The tire could also be pinched between the rim and the road if you are using a tire 245+ on a 7.0" rim. The tire warranty is only a roadhazard warranty, so once you change tires, you will get a new warranty with the new tires from where ever you buy them. Anyone should mount them. It's not an issue if they wont mount them, its that if the tire is too wide for the rim, it won't bead up properly when they go to inflate the tire. But 235 should be fine.
To ease your mind a little, in two weeks, I am gonna get a 17x7.5" rim and put on 245/40R17 G-force sports. But I am only gonna do that because there really aren't any rims I like in 8". There are so few.

The rims are 7" wide. Technically you should have a 7.5" wide rim for 235's, but it will fit no problem. The vehicle can actually go as wide as 245/40R18. But you definately will need to upgrade to a wider rim for that. Bare minimum of 7.5, but 8.0 would be safer.

the tires are 215--thats not a rim number. Rims are 18X7 (7" width) for S/C SS

The warranty: 99.9% of the tire shops out there won't even notice if the rim is slightly too small for the tire. Now if the rim is too large for the tire, it will take a ton of air pressure to get the bead to seat. I know from experience. We have to use the auto inflate at 40lbs, the mounter at 70lbs, and the cheetah at 150lbs, to seat certain high performance tires on vehicles. Such as the Viper we did a couple weeks ago.
Just put on the 235's and don't worry!!
Give me two and a half weeks and I'll show you what 245's look like on 7.5" rims.

A rims width does not equal an exact tire size. Like a 7" wide rims does not = a 215 tire.
A rim width can safely accomodate a range of limited tire widths. But you can only go so wide or so narrow.
