What Is The Knurl # For Our Ss/sc Wheel Studs?

I know we use a 12x1.5mm thread wheel stud but I need to know what the knurl is.

I am buying ARP wheel studs because my oem studs SUCK and keep snapping off.

I've been loosing about two to three studs everytime i rotate my tires. Now I need to change my rotors and I am afraid to take them off because on my right front tire I only have three studs out of five left.

I cannot seem to find out this number. I think its .509" can anybody confirm this?
Thanks for your help.

Are you torquing your wheel nuts by hand with an actual torque wrench? I've never heard of anyone constantly snapping off studs unless they're either crossthreading them or over tightening them.

tips for ya.

get hubcentric rings.

also, step torque the studs. before you put them on, take some arp moly lube and dab each stud. torque to 60. then 80, then 100. i too had an issue with snapping studs.

the arp studs that will fit our cars are part number 100-7708 for 2.5 inch long
or 100-7713 for 3.25 inch long.

mine are the 2.5

most likely you're over torquing them. the cobalt is only to be torqued to 100ft/lbs

Thanks for the part number this really helps.

If I get the 3.25" long studs can I still have the closed lug nuts?

Hmm, I've never broke one but I just put longer front studs in to run spacers with my drag tires.

stock wheels

the hub rings are 99% of the problem with snapping studs on aftermarket wheels

Just for help this is the part number to the studs I run in my car on the front. Dorman part # 610-323

They are long enough to run the DRs with spacers and short enough to run stock wheels and stock wheel nuts.

Do you mean people not running with hub-centric rings on their aftermarket wheels?

it's a little plastic ring that fits the center hub, and slides into the center of the wheel. the ss cars have their own hub diameter. id go to a well known wheel shop and tell them you need hub rings.

THIS is why you are snapping studs.

It's not guaranteed, but it could be a possibility. After doing tires and wheels for 7 years, I find that most of the time snapping of studs is due to over torquing or crossthreading.
