winter help
hey guys, maybe im just not used to a light weight FWD car but im having major traction issues. my first car was a 91 camaro RS V8 which i sold for the cobalt. the balt seems unstable above 40 mph in snowy conditions (first time ever getting passed consistently on the highway) ive also gotten stuck in the same areas where the camaro had no problem plowing through, even in rain the front wheels spin way too easily. what tires would you guys recommend? any tips? i have a 5spd and i shift around 2k to keep the engine out of its powerband to try and minimize the spin issue.
how do you guys fair in snow conditions?
thanks

thanks
the good year bliztechs seemed to get good reviews on tirerack, im thinking to find a junkyard set of wheels for my winter tires, or if theyre rims then use them as nice weather wheels and use the stock stealies as winter wheels. in any case ill go for the cheaper solution.
i saw on here that people advice against 2nd gear starts, but i mean im off the clutch within a second.
i think the balt is a great car for the money, u guess i just miss rwd for the snow
oh and btw thanks for the help guys

Winter tires rock. I've been tearing up the roads around here since I got mine. Lived my whole life in WI and this is the first set I've had - can't believe I've lived this long without them.
Can't help you re: second gear starts etc. Mine an auto.
However once you get your cobalt set-up you'll never miss rear wheel drive in the winter. I owned two Trans Ams and they were both terrible in the winter. Some people say not to put weight in your car but I have a 50 lb sand bag in the trunk. It helps keep the rear-end of the car where it is supposed to be instead of trying to lead the way.
Once you get it sorted out your car will be a demon in the snow. I won't say how fast I've been going recently, but suffice to say that the local SUV owners are starting to annoy me by how slow they go when the first flake flies.

I started driving RWD when I was young, it's a matter of the tires and technique
I am going Ice Racing in Wisconsin Jan 18 to hone the skills, you are more than welcome to join me.
after a few runs on a frozen lake.... the worst the street has to offer is a joke!!!
whatcha running Jello? tirewise that is...
