weird pop and limp node MAF
weird pop and limp node MAF
OK, I have a few problems and I thought I would mention them here.
1.) I get a MAF CEL and I am currious, if I can clean the MAF, and if so how, and or buy a new one?
2.) I get a CAT CEL saying my cat is bad or something. I have a hole in my flex pipe before the cat, and I am currious if that could cause it? I have an appointment setup to replace that with my local muffler shop, so that wont be a problem hopefully after the new heavy duty flex pipe is on.
3.) Could these 2 problems lead to this. my car starts up and runs fine for the most part. However, If I floor my car, and it gets arround 6200-6500 rmp it willl pop or something and then keep going up to 7000. Like, its hard to explain, but if you have it floored, at 6500 or so it will jerk the whole car, like a sudden loss in power for a split second, and then it will finish up to 7000. After that the car is in limp mode and I have to shut the car off and turn it back on real quick to get it back to normal.
4.) I didnt really notice # 3 until after I put in a new air filter (I have an injen intake, and I bought a pep boys spectre filter (said it was as good as K&N, only weird thing was it had a filter part on the head as well, which my injen filter didnt) and I also changed all my spark plugs (same as before the change, just NGK 2 step colder plugs). I didnt gap them though, I left them how they came out the box, I dont know what should I be gapping my plugs to?

what mods do you have to use those 2 step colder plugs???
Also, the whole before your cat will be throwing the cat code (p0420 probably) due to the air leaking in.
Also could be throwing off your primary 02 sensor if some of that air gets sucked in the exhaust and your o2 sensor picks it up
Double check all the intake connections also, make sure there wasn't any oil or anything on that air filter that would get on your MAF

Stage 2, 2.8 inch pulley, high flow cat, high flow downpipe, 3inch header, CAI, exaust, etc. pretty much every bolt on.
OK, yea it is the 420, so I am going to get that fixed soon.
if oil did get on my MAF, how can I go about cleaning it? I read somehwere you can use brake cleaner? So just pop it off, spray it w/ brake cleaner, let it dry, and then put it back on?

well, I don't know that you really would need the 2 step colder plugs......I used the 1 step colder, gapped em at like .035 or .036 I think.
as far as the MAF. Go to your local auto parts store, they should have MAF sensor cleaner. Get some of that, follow the directions on the spray can.

eh maybe it is only 1 step colder, I got the suggested ones the BRK7E's or something.
So MAF cleaner. aiight, ill check out pep boys today and see if I can find some.
How much does a new MAF cost? Just out of curriousity? I know for me sentra SE-R they was mad expensive.
so .35 is fine, isnt that the default gap on the BRK7E's?

I don't know what the default is for the plugs......might want to get a gapper and double check them anyways.
And yes, a MAF sensor is probably not to cheap over 100 easy I'm sure....I've never priced one out before

Ok thanks for all the info here. I have a gapper on my keys, I just didnt think to use it. I guess ill double check when I go to clean the maf, and put my new air filter on (bought an injen just to be safe) Ill let you know how it goes, I should be taking my car in tomorrow to have the leak fixed.
if you have the iridium plugs, you cant gap them...the plugs are too sensitive to be gapped and must remain at the stock gap or you will break them. This is according to ZZP who sells them, and NGK themselves
My intake filter was the cause of the pops. I got the replacement injen and popped it in. Problem went away. i think it was because the new one the filter was longer, so it wrapped arround the intake pipe farther up. Because of this the pipe went farther into the filter, and maybe cause turbulance or something. the injen sits flush w/ the pipe, and the pipe doesnt actualyl go into the filter part. Its hard to explain, but this fixed the problem, I can now rev up to 7000 RPM's problem free again.
I also got my exaust leak fixed. OMG! I can hear my supercharger again! Also, my car is so much faster. Like low end power especially. when I touch the gas at like 20 in 2nd gear the car actually moves with force now!
I checked my spark plugs and they were all at .35, so I just left them be.
All in all I am happy. I think I am going to sell my balt for an 09 Mazda 3 or 6, so I am going to take her to the track for one last horrah this weekend. See if I can break my old record of 13.4
