Catalytic Converter Restricted replacement at dealers

To: All Chevrolet Dealers and Saturn Retailers

From: Product Quality Center (PQC)

Attention: Service Manager, Parts Manager, Warranty Administrator

Subject: Part Restriction – Catalytic Converter

Models Involved:
2005 – 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged
2004 – 2007 Saturn ION Redline
Equipped with 2.0L Engine (RPO LSJ)

As part of our ongoing quality improvement efforts, the Catalytic Converter will be placed on restriction through the PQC to assist Engineering with product concern identification. Your cooperation with this program is greatly appreciated.

Effective Monday, April 14, 2008 the following part numbers will be restricted:
P/N 15147065
P/N 15873413

Please complete the following questionnaire before contacting the PQC at
1-866-654-7654.

Catalytic Converter Questionnaire
1. Is EI08085 listed in VIS?

2. Customer Concern (as it reads on the RO):

3. Does the vehicle have a GM Performance Stage 1 or Stage 2 kit installed? If yes, which kit?

4. Is the air inlet/filter stock?

5. Is there any sign of water in the air inlet?

6. Is the exhaust system stock?

7. List all DTCs:

8. Has the exhaust flex joint been inspected? If yes, are there signs of corrosion, cracks or damage? If no, inspect before calling PQC.

9. Has the exhaust system back pressure been checked per SI Document #2075527? If yes, provide results. If no, perform pressure check before calling PQC.

10. Calibration/software ID # for ECM (from Tech 2):

Yeah, spoke with the Ecotec engineer about this last week. Had several cracked flex joints in 1 week including mine.

WOW talk about random, just the other day my cat started sounding bad, like it may be fried or cracked, im running stg2 with vibrant exhaust, so im deff taking it to the dealer, hope they dont give me the ring around

...its only taken them 4yrs to start figuring out there is an issue

There are interesting questions:

3. Does the vehicle have a GM Performance Stage 1 or Stage 2 kit installed? If yes, which kit?

just another way to them to get out of taking Responsibility for **** breaking.

Well, if its modified from stock, it shouldn't be warrentied. If its due to the stage kits, they will change the calibration or something to try and prevent it.
