Someone wanting to be a test car for Clear Image Automotive

Dan and I have been talking about making a custom header. 4-1 for the 2005 cobalts. If you live in the Washington State and or near Clear Image Auto.. then contact me. You will get a sweet deal on a custom 4-1 header.

Interesting
We are going to need some details on this Header
Is it for the 2005 cobalt with 2.2L? Damn coolant line in the way
Size of Collector? Hopefully 2.25"
Stainless or Ceramic coated Mild Steel?
Bolt-on or will it need to be welded to the downpipe?

So many questions.........

If I wasn't on the other side of the border I would. I would buy a header from clear Image if only it was T304 Stainless with a 2.25" collector so I don't throw my powerband too far up.

I just found this thread.

We always try to build headers with long primary tubes.
Primary size would be 1 3/4" to start with with 1 5/8" being an option. Collector would be 3" but the down-pipe could be reduced down to 2 1/4" if needed. Mild steel with ceramic coating as an option. Possibly stainless down the road. Stock down-pipe would not work as the header would be full length.

What's the deal with the SAI header requests? What years/models have this? Are you guys saying no company offers a header for one of your vehicles?

Let me know more details. get me a local car and we'll make things happen for you. You already know we can.

Thanks.

P.S. Nebraska is one of the ONLY states we have NEVER sold anything to.

Dan check the 2.2L performance section for the SAI sticky.

Essentially on some 06 and later models air gets injected back into the intake to help emissions. It's a crock because if no provision is made in the header then the car throws and engine code.

If you just made a header for SAI provisions it should cover all cars including those with and without SAI.

Someone local with the SAI: bring us a car so we can add the provision to our current TRI-Y header as well as design a 4 - 1 header.

If there's as much interest for a SAI header, as it sounds like, there should be no problem with a local owner bringing us a car.

Thanks.

I am starting to realize why no company offers a header for the SAI cars. There isn't anyone available with one to allow for the R&D. Also, are the SAI cars in CA only? We would be more than happy to add a provision but we need a car or at least a stock manifold with the provision.

I would be happy to loan out mine for R&D if you guys were within driving distance, but im down in San Diego. As far as what cars have the SAI on them, I called the dealer about this. I was told it was optional smog equipment for the California emissions requirements. They said it was illegal to remove the system if u have it, but its optional in the first place.

Like Umrdyldo pointed out, if the header does not have the provision for it, it throws a code, which creates a whole new boat of problems. There are no vendors or companys that offer headers for the Cobalt with a SAI provision.

My 2.2L 2008' Special Edition has it, and its becoming very frustrating. I've called dealers from here to Las Vegas, and every single dealer refuses to remove the system. Does no one in WA have a SAI car?

SAI is all 2.2 models for 07 and 08, some in late 06 as mine is. There is (or atleast was) significant interest in this header. I was going to bring my car to cobalt-addiction but i never heard back from them. I have since been one of maybe 3 members who successfuly flashed out SAI. From your tuning and how you need to know the certain RPO codes, have you attempted tuning a car with a different RPO? If you check out the thread in my signature it explains how to flash out SAI... this is also the same method to change the tire size on 2.2's (unfortunately, you can olny choose between the stock sizes unless you find a way to crack that as well.)

I know there are quite a few members on here with 2.2's that would like the opportunity to flash out SAI or get a header that is SAI compatible. Maybe look into working on a better intake as well. since K&N offers the only compatible intake at the moment.

My signature thread offers alot of info and has links to other important threads.

Dealer is clueless. it was installed on all 2.2's after late 06. It is not illegal to not have it, except in CA (where you are unfortunately)

Yea, I figured as much. Still, if someone were to make headers with the SAI provision on them, they would be the only one to offer such a thing. Someone give these guys a car!

QFT... I am sure there are plenty of 2.2 owners that would love a decent header. and especially some of those guys in CA.

Since I flashed mine out, I am removing the equipment this summer when I do the whole H/D/E swap. I have a SS header and DP and the GMPP performance exhaust waiting for install.

I had planned on dropping in a Hahn Racecraft turbo, Water/Meth kit as well as the other bolt ons. I knew Tuning would be a problem untill HPT supported the new 32-bit computers but this kinda put all that on standstill. Hopefully there will be a SAI header at some point down the road if all the new 2.2L's are going to have the SAI on them.
