Aftermarket for 2.4 Cobalts

How do you guys think the aftermarket for the 2.4L SS Cobalts will develop? It is the newest of the three engines, and has the largest displacement of the three. Since it is so new I realize there aren't too many mods out for it yet, but in the future do you see either turbo or supercharged 2.4L ecotecs going against the 2.0 S/C which is the king of the hill for now?

The first major development that needs to happen for the 2.4 is a VVT controller.... without that running a F/I setup could be a major headache... once a device exists to harness the power of the VVT we could see some major gains.

ummm, this is similar to vtec and being able to control vvt will help with tuning

anyway i think the aftermarket will be pretty big, its looking like we are able to use alot of the same parts as the 2.2

i think the headers would be the same, maybe as scdyne since they are the only ones i see that sell a header for the 2.4 specifically

This car isn't a Honda Civic. There will never be a billion parts for it. There wasn't for the Cavalier or Sunfire either. Instead of Average Joes Shop making exhaust, springs, internals, euro tails, hoods, and the like, I think it'll be more actual accedited tuners. I also think that the GM Performace Division will steadily release more parts. GM is finally realising the tuner market. A tad late, but better late than never. They have a great base to work on, especially with the SS models. I think you'll see many good quality companies making solid components for the s/c and n/a. Likewise, people will also figure out easy swaps. Like 3.8 Monte guys can use Northstar throttle-bodies. Weird **** like that. Someone will figure out a way to make mad power cheap. It's been done before, and will be done again.

For the comparison though. If you put a superchager on the 2.4, I think it'd kill the s/c. It's a stronger engine (I believe), as well as the obvious .4 increase in displacement. Plus, it has the added benefits of the VVT. I find turbo to be very fun, but the supercharger will provide full-range power.

There's my pennies.

What do you mean it'd kill the s/c? Can you elbrate(sp?)?

Isn't a s/c just basically a smaller version of the 2.2 block that's just built with heavy duty components? The n/a is a bigger displacement engine, a whole new engine it's self, has the VVT technology, things like that. I'd say that it's a pretty safe bet that it'll have more power. If you took the n/a and only put a blower on it and intercooled it, like the s/c's... Power would certainly be better. It just makes sense.

i still will never understand why gm would put a s/c on their smallest ecotec

Theres a few things to bring up here. First I think all ecotec 4's are the same block, but I'm not positive. Reasons why they S/C the smallest block, they needed to dedicate a motor to just s/c because it needs different internals to support the F/I. The 2.0 also has a much lower compression ratios then the 2.4. You couldn't just slap a S/C on the N/A block without running small PSI or replacing all the internals.

i think the stock 2.4 internals can handle 7 psi which should be roughly 70hp, thats more than enough to take out the stock ss/sc...

I know the internals can handle the boost but not with the high compression ratio. I'm thinking it can only handle around 5 intercooled. Maybe I'm wrong but I know with higher compression ratio you can't run as much boost and I deff. don't know excatly what internals are in the motor. Does anyone know what internals we got?

reduced compression, altered boreXstroke, make it the smallest displacement. it's technically not smaller though.

you'll notice that the high power ecotecs are 2.0 liters, and that the upcoming 2.0TC ecotec retains that philosophy.

there's a reason why it's the better motor, do some research...

well they were doing 7 psi in the gt-s celica's and those compression is alot higher than ours so i have no doubt that we can go 7-8 psi intercooled with no problem as long as tuning is done right

whoa calm down killer....all i'm saying that a 34hp gain from a force induced car is not that impressive to me. with a few bolt on's we can easily be at the same hp. there are many reason's why i didn't get the s/c and one of them was because of that

well, say we turbo a 2.4 liter ss at 7 psi. so stock they make what maybe 160whp? then each psi we add to that should be about 10whp. 160 + 70 = 230whp... now that is enough to at least tie or beat a ss/sc cobalt. The other thing is i have heard that the 2.2 cobalts have succesfully gone to 250whp on stock internals. which makes me think that the 2.4 could do that as well so 7 psi is being very conservative. 9 psi may just be possible which would most definately beat a ss/sc. please correct me if you think any of this is wrong and have a reason why. thanks

i mean since we dont know these motor well yet i cant make a fact, but imho, 9 psi is gonna be way to much. 7 is goin to be pushin it. but that is just an opinion. until we know the exact internals we wont know wat the motor can handle.

well i do know that the 2.4 ss has forged internals so i imagine they should be pretty strong , the compression we have is our biggest enemy

wait we do have ALL forged internals? if so, as long as theres a good copper headgasket, i would doubt 10 psi intercooled.
