Cobalt SS manual/LS auto Center Console Swap
Cobalt SS manual/LS auto Center Console Swap
I am looking forward to buying a SS S/C next month and was wanting some help on a thought that came to my mind. I know that the manuals dont get a armrest/raised center console but whats the likelyhood that us SS drivers can order an automatic LS ebony center console from GM and switch them out? I mean the screws/bolt position should be the same right? Let me know what you guys think.

the armrest was omited only in the manual cobalts. we think it was because the shifter is too low to properly shift with the persons right arm resting on the console. also it gets in the way of the e-brake which is used everytime the person parks. it sucks though because i want the console and will be getting the SS S/C.

I test drove a base sedan (automatic) two weeks ago, and it didn't have one either. The LS sedan I'm currently trying out (also an automatic) does, however.
yea i have been wondering the same thing whats up with the armrest???
i mean sure if there is an armrest i would prolly mod it in some way any way so not having one is just more incentive to do some custom work i guess

I test drove a base coupe with the 5 speed and noticed this same thing. It sucks cause I am a huge fan/user of armrests. But oh well. The way I'll be driving my SS, I'll be ripping through the gears all the time so there will be no time rest my arm
But where are my CD's going to go? Good thing it has a MP3 player and I can fill one CD full of music!

Correction. The base sedans/coupes don't have the armrest standard. I think only the LS Coupes/LS and LT Sedans in automatic only get raised center consoles/armrests. Thats probably the reason when you test drove the base sedan you didnt see the armrest in it. I'm with RedCavy..more to customize!

I test drove an auto coupe and there was a manual coupe at the lot, neither had arm rests. the dealer said non of the cobalts they saw at their shows had arm rests, and dont think any will come with them. But only will we know when all the versions come out.
I know in the booklet at the dealerships it says the armrest is optional in some and standard in others, but the SS has nothing in it. But in some pics of what I've seen of the interior I have seen an armrest, but I hope they do, because when I sat in the a sedan, it didnt feel right at all without one.
I just looked at the book the dealer gave me and it does say its option in the LS coupe and LS sedan, and standard in the LT sedan. So depending on hoe the armrest mounts...... it will probably fit, but have to see both cars center consoles to be able to tell....
Copying this from my other post here (this was for a base model)......
The GM AutoBook they used to print out information for me says:
Transmission
MX0 4-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION W/OD -inc: console armrest
w/storage *w/JM4 ABS Brakes-inc: Enhanced Traction System*
so does that mean you only get the armrest with auto AND ABS?
