3 in. straight pipe

i have a 06 ss sc and i was wanting to put an exhuast on it. i dont want to spend a **** load on an exhuast system so i was thinking 3in. straight pipe. my friend knows someone whoi can bend the pipe for me and won't really charge me that much money. so i need input on how 3in. would sound on a ss sc.

3 inch sounds ok.... can get a little raspy if its header back. i would get a muffler but thats just me.... magnaflow seems to be a big hit on the forums for a universal muffler rather than just straight pipe

3 inch sounds amazing with a magnaflow muffler and a resonator such as a glasspack. Everyone that has heard my exhaust has said they absolutely loved it.

A 3 inch straight pipe is going to sound like ass on a LSJ just like 98% of the exausts on these cars.

Hey guys, anyone have some suggestions for a straight piped 06 ss s/c? it still had the 2.25 stock tubing just straight piped it where the resonator used to be, its really raspy until the engine warms up, but not to bad, any suggestions?

yes, put the resonator back on. It is not a restrictive part of the exhaust.

2.25" Straight Pipe

Ok so the other day i was looking at the exhaust systems available, and im still saving up for a nice one, but for the mean time i cut off the resonator on my stock exhaust for my 06 ss s/c and it was really raspy until the engine warms up, but i would really like some suggestions, i just have it straight piped out the back with a tip, still 2.25" tubing though, anyone have some ideas to make it sound better? this wont hurt anything will it?

So by taking off my stock resonator it didnt even do anyting for the performance aspet of the car? just basically makes it louder? lol

Pretty much, yeah. You'd be better off putting the resonator back and replacing the over axle bend with some 2.5" pipe.

but thats not what he wants...

I dont think youll like the sound without a muffler... Get a magnaflow one...

The only thing about having someone bend a pipe is that its going to constrict where the bend it (unless its mandrel bending but i doubt it) And then it would be pointless...

http://www.mandrelexhaustsystems.com...EXHAUST/Detail

Thats 3" piping pre bent (mandrel) for 195$$... buy a muffler if u want

Question

okay i see, yea i took it off and everything already, it doesnt sounds to bad, i have the 2.5 CA high flown down pipe w/ high flow cat, so i think that might be helpin it out some, but i hear what your saying about the bend and everything, i think instead of trying to make a custom exhaust maybe i should just buy one? lol or maybe jsut run 2.5 from the downpipe out to the straight pipe with like a magnaflow muffler on it? is that what your sayin

It depends how you wanna go..

Ive thought about doing something like that (having a inline muffler about halfway back on the car.. haha..

Or if you want a 3 inch exhaust, buy a mandrel bent one.. Its worth the little bit of extra money...
I would have the mandrel one welded at the joints (where the metal connects) to secure it.. but it will work!

it all depends on how you wanna do things... full pipes, buy the mandrel... half back, stick with the cat + muffler...

Agreed.. i woudlnt do it either...

He also wasnt pushing alot of hp... if you around 300 i would go with a 3"... or if your planning on hitting 300hp.. any less i would stay with the 2.5 (2.75 tops)...

If you have a cat, i would stick with getting the full exhaust (it will probly sound crappy otherwise)
