WOW! Typical Service department.

Just got a call back from the service department at my local Chevy dealer. Telling me my intercooler is broken and that it isn't covered under warranty. They say it's cracked and that I must have hit something or something hit the intercooler, even though I was driving while it happened and I did not hear a thing, I just lost all my boost and FI all of the sudden. I should have known they would try and say it's not covered now. They are trying to charge me $700 for the parts and labor.

If they say you "hit something" there should be damage to the front of the car I would imagine.

Agreed, if there is no damage to the front end, not sure how that would happen...

Well if there is no way out of it, get the Hahn IC in the group buy. Plus it'll be cheaper than what that dealership wants. If you can afford to wait that is.

Yeah, I'm gonna haggle with them about it, and tell them there is no way in hell I'll ever pay them 700 for them to put in a stock intercooler. I'm also going to ask them if there was a recall on my brakes, and if there is I'm just going to tell them it was because my brakes were defective and caused me to hit a bump . haha, but yeah if I don't get it covered under warranty I'm just gonna get an aftermarket one.

Also they said their proof was that there was dirt under the car, and a couple scrapes on the front fender, but I had those scrapes long before this happened, cuz i bottomed out a tad going into a driveway a long time ago.

If none of the dealers will cover it then I guess it's time for the hahn intercooler.lol

Ok... I work for a dealer. Don't bother with the service manager. GO STRAIGHT TO GM. Tell them that they are accusing you of doing something you never did with no proof, A DEALER SHOULD NEVER ACCUSE BEFORE THEY CAN PROVE. This is not acceptable i would not settle for less then them replacing it.

Think of this as an opportunity to upgrade to a larger intercooler, put some duct tape around the damage and dont get into boost until your bigger intercooler comes in.

I did the exact same thing, and it was a few weeks before I noticed the problem as it took a while for the crack to grow. Someone already beat me to posting it, but look at your intercooler. If you scraped the front lip, you may have done the same thing...

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/08-10-ss-turbocharged-general-discussion-152/careful-scraping-135630/

When I did that no one had their kit out yet, so I had to pay the $$ for stock.... Now Im getting the hahn intercooler, so I have 1 broken intercooler, 1 good intercooler, and the hahn...

Yeah I'm just really thinking I'm gonna upgrade to the hahn one. Cheaper and will give some gains, especially if I get a tune eventually. The only thing I'm worried about is installing it. Is it hard? Could I do it by myself or with a friends help?

If you can turn a wrench, you can install it yourself. Its a true bolt-on upgrade. You need to remove the bumper to do it, but again, its all wrench turning, no modification needed.
