Clutch engages late??

Is it just me or is my TC the only car on this site that has a clutch that is just past 3/4 of the way disengaged before it starts to catch?? Everybody else seems to have clutch's that catch closer to fully engaged but mine is just the opposite and it makes it hard as hell for me to drive.

I had the same problems with my car...

I had driven sticks for years, but my T/C made me feel like an novice.

So me and a tech manually bled the clutch on my T/C found an air pocket in the line... and viola!

It then became a much greater joy to drive. Best quick fix mod I ever performed!

The clutch is much smoother, and the car is much easier to get moving from a stop...

every cobalt i've ever driven catches very high. it's pretty normal. i think this is why so many noobs fry their clutches, because they're on the gas before the clutch is ready. took me a long time to get used to the cobalt, probably about 3 months before i was very smooth all the time with it, and i got it when i was 26. took my driving test with a manual when i got my license. hardest car to get used to i've driven.

Mine engages very high as well. It is normal for our cars. I have heard about some having a low disengage point and that is a problem.

Yep. Mine and every one I've ever driven has been the same way. Ask anyone who has an SS; it's a weird ass clutch.

like someone above suggested, you might try bleeding the system. could be moisture or even air in the line.

I have yet to crawl under my SS and bask in its glory (first oil change is soon, yay!), but I wonder how prone to swelling the clutch line is in these cars. Are there any steel-braided options available? usually a cheap upgrade that can firm up the clutch feel significantly.

The clutch in the SS/SC is deff. hard to get used to at first. I assume the SS/TC is the same. I drove a 5 speed LS and the clutch was so easy that I wasn't sure if I was engaged until I got moving. It takes some practice to get a nice smooth engagement out of the SS clutches, but once you get it down it is cake.

our clutch line is a hard plastic, gm has been using that design for years and ive never seen an issue. the clutch releasing high is partly due to the self adjusting pressure plate. this makes the clutch release at about the same point through the clutch's life, instead of being low when its new and very high when its worn out. having the pedal release high is also great for performance driving and fast shifting as you dont need to push the clutch to the floor to shift.

btw, if there is air in the clutch line it will make the clutch feel spongy and it will release close to the bottom, not the top.

Normal.

I asked the exact same question before ~> https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/2-0l-lnf-performance-tech-153/high-clutch-grab-lnf-normal-137492/

I wish the engament point was lower in the petal... *most* other cars are lower, and then switching from car to car makes it hard.

did you read any of the posts that said it's normal for it to catch high? or did you pass them all. if you passed them, re-read the thread.

totally normal for the car to catch real high.

I was used to it when I got mine. My other car has a centerforce dual friction in it, and it feels about the same. Took about 1 minute for me to get a feel for it.

i got the same feeling while driving an 07 Z06. emasculated. engagement from start to finish felt like it was about 1/4" of pedal travel. the 08 my dad has now is much better.

Unhappy Glad to know I am not the only one !

That high grab is a real bee-yotch - just when you think you have it down, *stall*.

However, the high grab makes the NLS easier , so there is some tiny benefit.

Since most of my clutch use is not w/ NLS, however, having it grab lower would sure be nice.

I'm not a clutch noob, but it has been a while since I have driven one, and here 2 weeks into the car I am still 'struggling'.

*SIGH*

Other than that, this has been one of the most fun cars I have had !
