Flooded Cobalt SS

my cobalt ss/sc got submerged in water today, up to almost the middle of the doors in the dallas floods... i took the supercharger off and got all the water outta the intake and stuff and made sure that the spark plugs were dried off, but still no start... what else should i try, or am i just screwed? could there still be water in the actual exhaust? would water in the oil make it not start? my oil was at 16% and now its at 100% all of the sudden...

sounds like it might be an electric problem. It should only reset when we do it manually by hitting the buttons. Otherwise it shouldnt change at all. Maybe some of the wires got wet and were fried?

There is always insurance, correct?

Unless the car is beyong repair, which I doubt. However, your rates will probably go up.

It's called comprehensive, hence his rates will not go up...

If the car is turning over I would say there is an electrical problem. Most likely the ecm is damaged beyond repair. Computers do not like to be dunked under water.

By the way sorry to hear about your 'Balt

if the oil life system is reset, somehow, the pcm stopped receiving power at some point, its possible that it just shorted out at the battery.
i once saw a v14 genset go completely submerged while running and still ran fine up until the water reached the exhaust chamber.

replace ALL fluids in the car (not just in the engine) including the gas.

call gm technical service for a schematic and check all electrical connections.

check your fuses, if you dont have an ohmmeter, pm me and i can suggest an alternative method or two.

check your fuel pump, that could be a problem too.

i do have a question, what does your dealer have to say about this? wouldnt this be part of that bumper to bumper warranty?

the dealer hasnt seen the car yet, but based on what i have told them, they are pretty sure that the engine is seized and needs to be replaced... will this be covered under warranty or am i gonna have to pay a deductable?

probbly have to at least pay the deductable. but I asked my insurance guy.. aka my brother. and he said that here they would call that an act of god and that you would be liable for the entire amount. so hopefully they at least cover the rest

Yikes if ur DIC reset the oil life hopefully none of the electronic components have been fried. As for the car not starting it could possibly be filled with water as well meaning it could potentially have to be removed and drained. Hope everything gets fixed up.

See if you can buy it off your insurance and use it for parts or make a track car out of it.

Your going to have to file a clame with your INS man.
My sisters car was in 3 feet of water a few years ago and it was totaled by the INS company.
Sorry to tell you but if they dont totale the car you will have problems with it for th rest of the time you own it.
Everything from Wires coroding to the seats starting to smell. Even your A/C system when turned on might start to smell bad.
A freind of mine bout a car that had been in 4 feet of water a few years ago at a salvage yard and fixed it.
It was a total waist of money. He was never abel to get the car to run 100% even after a full new motor.

Good luck man. If they do total it you can get them te just replace it most of the time.
Thats what my sister did. They gave her a car the same year with 4K less miles on it and all the same options and color.

Later

after talking to a bunch of people im hoping that they total the car. everyone says that the car will suck after this. even if the INS company doesnt pay the full value of the car, i have gap insurance so im still covered...

p.s. the car never turned over, it just clicks once when i try to start it.
