okay.. so ill try to describe this as best as i can..

just a few minutes ago i left the house and was going for a ride.. after i left my driveway and started down the road, onnce i shifted into second gear i gradually got on it and did a quick shift to 3rd (no bumps.. it was smooth).. and then the car just died.. i slowed down and tried to kick start it but nothing happened.. i pulled over and tryed to crank it and it would catch and i could hear/feel the car firing however it would die again instantly.. after sitting for a few minutes i tryed again and the car started up fine and "appeared" to drive fine..

i watched the boost gauge and boost and all seems to still be fine however the gauge seems to drop alot faster then what i can remembre (idle gas tapping to test boost, not actually in drive because i didnt want to test that since i was so close to home)

anybody have any ideas of what coulda caused this.. when i pulled over i did smell something a little odd so i thought maybe the cats mighta took a **** but when i reached homea gain i looked under and saw no cherry colors..

if it was just an redline incident would this cause it to shut off.. i have bounced off it a couple times but never has it "died" on me

 

Im not exactly sure what causes this, but my car did the same thing when it was fairly new, like under 1500 miles. Luckily mine died on a side street which wasnt heavily traveled but I asked my dealership and they said they couldn't explain it. It's not the "limp mode" which people speak of. It must be some random sequence of events that would cause the car to do this. I would cal the dealership and ask about this just to make sure, but after my car did this it has never happened again(crosses fingers).

 

I don't know if I had the same problem as you since you said smooth.... I hit a hella bump one time and my car died... I even pulled over and checked my wheels it was that hard... Anyway, it started right up after that.

The dealer probably won't be able to tell you anything if you call. If its not broke they can't fix it and won't be able to tell you if anythings wrong... Just my .02....

Did you bang it off the rev limiter when you shifted cause if you did you triped the fuel cut off it takes 10 minutes or so to clear then the car will start but you will have a cel but the dealer can clear it and there is nothing wrong with the car it has happened to me.

 

not exactly sure what rpm i hit it at.. i have pretty much gotten it down from the feel of the car. when i noticed i i had no power and i saw the rpm guage was at 0.. i was doing about 80 i would say and it happend about the time i shifted (during or instantly after). so maybe is what happened..

 

did any lights on your dash come on? Mine has done it (not under normal circumstances) and an engine with a down arrow has been on the dash.

 

nope, none of this.. no lights, no cels thrown.. nothing of the sort.. just simple "died" on me for that moment. I ended up going out for another drive last night after posting and am currently at work and the car seems perfectly fine so i am guessing it must of just been some wierd fluke that i musta set off *shrug*
