Fuel Injector Cleaner/Engine Light/ Accident

Hello All,

I'm having a some proplems lol. First I would like to give a little bit of background i'm not a very technical person engine wise, so I'll try to explain myself as clearly as I can. Yesterday I was hit in the parking lot (very icy my car moved almost 45 degrees in angle with only scratches)

I was hoping it was just only external damages but as i started my car and my engine light comes on and abs also. I take it in to the dealer today to see whats up and they told me it was fuel intake valve? I used STP fuel injector cleaner about a week earlier and no lights came on and i was wondering if they are trying to pull a fast one on me but it does sound related to adding fuel injector cleaner?

Also when I drive its normal no abnormal noises or sounds. Any opinions? Suggestions?

1. Is the car under warranty? If so, just let them fix the car and it doesn't matter what the "say" the problem is, as long as they fix it. If it IS a bad valve that would be covered under the powertrain warranty and would not have been caused by the accident.

2. Without knowing exactly what the CEL was for it is hard to say, however a bad valve will not cause the ABS light to come on. However, a bad wheel sensor will cause both a CEL and ABS light to come on. You can always take the car to Autozone or somewhere and get the code read then post the code.

3. You are not technically supposed to put fuel injector cleaner in the Supercharged or Turbocharged Cobalts. Seafoaming to clean the injectors is ok, but not supposed to use injector cleaner. Using injector cleaner, especially using it once, shouldn't mess anything up.

Where was your car hit? In the rear? In the front? Side?

How does seafoaming work? I've seen the videos is it something that i might be able to do? And thanks for your response

Seafoaming isn't hard to do, you can always take it to a shop and have it done as well. The shops usually call it fuel injector service or something like that. If the car was hit in the back driver side it is possible that it the rear driver side wheel sensor loose (or even ANY of the wheel sensors could have been knocked loose or even broken), but if you could get the actual code it would help.

The code for the ABS is c004a and the code for the engine light is pa496 something about a engine purge.

I'm leaving work now to pick up the car. When i get the invoice i'll get the actual read out. He was very vague on the phone.

I'm taking it you meant P0496 which is Evaporative Emission System Flow during Non-Purge. I have thrown that code before, but I'm not really sure what is the problem. Only thing I would say is to check the gas cap. Someone else can prolly help you more.

c004X code is a wheel sensor code. Probably the driverside rear.

C0035 - Driver Side Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit
C0040 - Passenger Side Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit
C0045 - Driver Side Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit
C0050 - Passenger Side Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit

P0496 EVAP flow during non-purge. Probably a problem with the EVAP/Fuel pump which is also located on the driver side rear of the car. One of the hoses may have come loose or the EVAP/fuel pump may have actually been jolted enough to make one of the internal pieces stick.

You might be able to clear the codes and see if they come back on. They MAY have just set because of the impact.

Yes it was a P0496 Evap flow during not purge. They cleared the error i drove around for a bit, parked then i turned the car back on again and the engine light came back on. Is this something i could drive around with and not seriously harm my car? Looks like i will have to bring it back in thanks for your input.

I don't think it is going to hurt anything, but you may get reduced gas mileage and you definately won't pass an emissions test if you need one to renew your license plates. I don't know 100% if the EVAP and fuel pump are together as one unit, but I think they are.

Pretty sure the EVAP canister is not attached to the fuel pump. Ask one of the chevy techs on here and they'd tell you for certain.
