My cars valves seem to be knocking lately. I don't know if i just noticed it or if it really just started happening, it has 32,000 miles on it, any one have this problem before?

 

I'm not sure if mine were, as the car was driving perfectly fine until the engine light came on.

The light came on a Saturday night while coming home from the store. I drove it to work (5 miles), started acting up. Engine power reduced message came on, but I was able to limp her home. I had the car towed to the dealer on Tuesday, they called me on Thursday with the news that I had some bent/broken valves, #3 cylinder had been gouged, and had coolant mixed with the oil. That was at 29,7xx miles. Two weeks later I picked up my car with a new engine in it.

Go have it looked at. It wouldn't hurt.

 

No, not really. What leads you to believe its the valves?

 

Have you changed the oil lately.
Could be a filter problem(oil pressure not building up fast enough.

Does the sound increase with rpm evenly'
I was always told if the noise is double the rpm its the top end,if the same as rpm its the bottom end.

 

Cams actually turn at 1/2 crank speed so half rather than double. But a good point still, analyzing problems can come down to eliminating what it can't be.

I will ask the same question as css9450 - what leads you to believe "The valves are knocking"? Is the noise coming from one end of the motor or the other? From the top, or the bottom. Does it change with engine speed? Clicking, tapping, banging, hollow sounding?

Going to need a lot more info to solve this one.....

 

theres a coupler in ur blower that heats up and warps and makes it sound like ur valves are knocking...u can order an upgraded one for 15 on intenses website...look into it

 

this is a possibility.


But to answer other questions, it sounds like the valves are tapping. When the rpm's get higher that sound goes faster. When I WOT, all I hear is my exhaust and supercharger whine. I just changed my oil at around 30000, but I did it correctly, new oil filter and everything, changed it from mobil1 syn to royal purple syn. It's still under warranty, I may take it to the dealer to have them look at it, wouldn't hurt.

hey when idling my car likes to almost stall some times, also sometimes it likes to have that tapping noise which sounds like its coming from were the cylinders are at the top of the engine. i took my car to the dealer, they said they looked at it and plugged it into the computer and found nothing. i just installed my k&N CAI, still makes the noise sometimes, but the car does respond better with the intake, i love it, just wished it would install and seat better.
